Nick,
You've probably thought of this before, or it's been suggested to you ... but have you thought about putting out a book covering the advice you've given in these forums?  You might even call it "Nick's Suggestions, FSX" ... or similar. It would be so nice and useful to have in hand a comprehensive guide with the NO BS advice you've given out freely over the years. Now would be the time, and I think the market would be ready. Plus this might prolong the life of FSX.  In any case, thanks for all your help. I have certainly benefited from your presence.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Now Nick I was serious.  Grin Grin I have most of your tips, guides and suggestions in a 3 hole binder for quick reference which is really nice, but most guys don't go to that much trouble, to copy and paste to a document. You could do the book for them and make some dough besides. But whatever .... don't go away, you are needed. For sure. But thanks for the momentary thrill anyway ... yes, I did check my wallet and then search!!   Sad

Someone here could write the book using Nick's posts as references.  Then the ONE of us could make all the money!  I've thought about this too and seriously don't know why it's not been done yet.

Nick, I'm not kissing your arse here.  You ARE the foremost expert on FSX and computer HW for FSX.  I've been simming since FSX came out and nobody even comes close!  So a book (or manifesto, LOL!) would be welcomed and a much appreciated resource.  And we wouldn't have to go searching thru all those posts, not that it's not fun. Wink

I'd be willing to bet Nick posted his real picture on that last one, Ha Ha! Grin

With all the work Nick's doing on other things, including GEXn Europe, he may not have time to write a book on tweaking. If he did start writing it, that would be more added to his workload, and then people would start complaining and putting him down because he doesn't reply as much on the forums because he's writing the book... We have the internet that stores all of Nick's information for us, and he's gone through plenty of trouble already writing several long, long posts and threads about tweaking correctly. Another thing to keep in mind is that every system is different, so if you have a book telling you what to do, you can't ask it what's best for YOUR system.

being a certified dummy, i think that an online book with this title would be great...especially since it could be upgraded, to accommodate the digital demons who love to make things complicated for us and keep us on a leash.....could be sold like payware aircraft ....with all the myriad maze of protections to assure that each person has a legal copy Smiley.....it would sure be a relief to have one place to look...kinda of like a detective novel without an ending....nick probably doesn't need the money, so he could donate the profits to microsoft to supplement a new fs team Smiley......would be a nice offering..as long as he could handle the dummy part Smiley...but then again.....he has so much info on the forum, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.....cheers......

Being a member of the shiny forehead club ( over 50 ), Nicks advice has brought me into the 21st century. In the year 2000, I did not know how to turn a computer on. Now, next friday I am going to help a shiny forehead friend optimize his sluggish 2 year old pc.
The way Nick simplifies the tech stuff has amazed me since I've started reading Simv threads....

Yancovitch,
Excellent suggestion. I like the online book idea with the ability to change with the technology in the form of upgrades. Yes, I agree that he probably doesn't need the money ... but I'm not sure about the donation to MS part!   Grin Grin

You guys have me writing books and publishing now, huh

Well.. if someone will take on my grad class and take over my lectures this fall, finish GEX Europe and answer questions for me in about 15 different forums,.. and clean/service my boat.. sure, I'll write one

Bring a towel... you will be getting wet

There may also be a board meeting or two involved.. be ready to do your homework and speak at them as well.

and no, I don’t pay for travel

Bainbridge Island, Washington directly across the Sound from Seattle

... just fill the tanks after you are finished   Smiley

Takes 900 gal + the reserve

and watch the turns in the marina.. its 62ft long with a has a 17ft wide beam which makes it tricky to get into the slip.    Wink

and the bar is off limits...   you can watch the big screen all you want and crank up the surround system but do not touch my booze, or else    Angry

Pack a lunch cuz the fridge is empty.. the vacuum cleaner is stowed in the hall closet just before the master stateroom..  dont leave any crumbs

I will inspect the the hull so make sure you get all the barnicles off. Tanks and regulators are stowed near the dive platform

and I expect the storage tanks to be cleaned too.. both water and ....the other one   Huh

EDIT: Almost forgot...   I think I forgot to dump the bait bucket out after the last trip.. no biggie but do get down there and scoop out any leftovers after you drain it please..    thanks    Cool

If I could find a woman that would pilot and do that list of things I mentioned without so much as a chagrin ... I would marry her in a heartbeat

By the way.. I was just kidding about the hull.. she has a low frequency barnacle inhibitor installed and running 24/7 so thats not a problem...  but the hull still needs to be washed and polished above the water line none the less.

Always use the buddy system around water. Move out to the sun deck where there is a inlaid 36" screen you can use and keep an eye on her while she finishes the hull at the same time. I know its tough but safety first! Cheesy
