I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally have a hard time trusting the "latest and greatest" anything from Microsoft. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Windows 7 is basically just a version of Vista that's lighter on resources. If it were me, I'd stick with XP for now.

FSX runs fine... the problem
is you or your system

XP x64 is what I use

W7 is no faster than Windows Vista in FSX and there are issues with W7 and the FSX kneeboard and a few other nit-pick problems

Regardless you should always install FSX/FS9 to its own drive in Vista/W7 and set the permissions on the install folder to FULL with no inlfuences from Vista's nanny service which is why a lot of people see problems. The program files folder is still being monitored by UAC even if UAC is shut down and most people do not know that.

FSX/FS9 is best served on its own SATAII drive.. even with XP

None the less, XP x64 has less issues and in my opinion runs FSX smoother than Vista/W7

Be sure to collect all the correct drivers you need for Windows XP x64

Thanks Nick, and GroundBound  Smiley

i'm tired of Vista... i'm mad at it and i won't get near it again for anything more serious than casual laptop use (i haven't removed Vista off the laptop simply because i'm lazy, but it shall be gone at the first sign of trouble)

i'll be going back to XP today... and will be happy doing so  Smiley

Cheers

Umm I have 2 drives my main is a 300 gig Sata drive and my second is on a IDE channel used just for storage. In that case would it be better to install fs9 on the other drive, or just stick with my main drive till I can get another sata drive. I am using XP x86..

&&Specs&&E6300, 3 gigs 800 Ram, 8800GT oc, 400gig Sata drive, Windows XP Pro 64 Bit..

Do NOT put FSX on a IDE drive

SATAII (or better) only

A WD VelociRaptor is the best

This post explains hard drives and performance as they fill

all my drives are SATA II now, no more IDE for me  Wink (actually, the Intel mobo doesn't even have IDE ports anymore... the inside of the comp looks beautiful without any flat cables  Cheesy )

the thing is i have a 640GB drive and an older 200GB one that's filled to the brim with stuff... some of which are irreplaceable... and that drive is failing (the needle sometimes goes 'clank')...

so here's what i plan to do:

partition the large drive so i have my stuff in one partition and Windows and other apps on the other... (the size of these partitions is still TBD)

the smaller drive can be used for FS, and to keep a backup's backup (maybe partitioned also?) ... the problem is that i think this drive might fail me any time now, so i'm not sure if i should put anything that will make it work too hard

so the other option would be to put FS along with all other apps on the big drive, and just leave it like that for now, until i get more drives (it's about time i won the lottery already)

Cheers

Well, XP64 is installed... so far so AMAZINGLY FAST!!!!!!!!!!  Shocked Shocked  Grin Grin

man, everyting is blazing fast now... i love fresh computers  Cool

now, i'm off to bog it down with some insanely heavy software  Wink

Oh, BTW, here's what I did with the hard drives.... I took the big drive and partitioned it into one 450GB partition for software and games, and  made another 150GB partition for my works
the smaller drive (200GB) is currently filled to the brim with backup... including it's own OS (XP32)...
the next step is to take all the backup from that drive and put it into the big one, for now... then format it and put the backup back in there in a more organized manner...

...if only i could train a monkey to do that  Roll Eyes

Cheers
