There was a bit of excitement here today.  The F-16's that did the intercept were out of Madison.  I've heard that they have been scrambled a few times, but this is the most publicized scramble I've seen.  They evacuated our capitol building as the guy was heading for us.  Glad it ended the way it did.

Its people like this that give general aviation a black eye.  This also goes to show the media interest in avation, if he had stolen a car it wouldn't have made national news

But 1000s of cars are stolen daily worldwide.. how many aircraft are "stolen" in the true sense of the word, as this one was?

Don't need a key to steal an airplane, just a pair of wire snips.  Even better, some new planes (Archer) just have mag switches, no key.

Going back to the old idea then. The first ignition key I ever saw in an aircraft was on a brand new Piper Comanche in 1961.

Not sure if I should post how to "hot-wire" an aircraft, but it is very simple, key or no key.
