Embarrassed UGH my life is hell right now.......  Angry

around NOON (edt) today i tried to upgrade to the BRAND NEW Internet Explorer 8.0.  .... WELLL GUESS WHAT!!!!  Angry it wouldnt install properly, so it corrupted IE7.   well, how do you get a corrupted IE7 to work?? uninstall it and reinstall it through the SETUP program that I had saved on the C:/Program Files, right?  NO!!!! ... uninstalling IE7 corrupted my WINXP SP3... so now I had no EXPLORER.EXE on the computer what-so-ever.

Well, after 4 hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support and ~$250.00 later, they FINALLY F$%^&G tell me that my Windows is Corrupt and that it needs to be RE-INSTALLED.  (now everybody knows what that means) .... YUP! You guessed it..
FORMAT!!!!

That means not only did I loose some vital records that were in MY DOCUMENTS such as phone numbers, addresses, letters, and other Legal Documents..... but now my Registry has been FULLY CLEANED OUT!!!!!!  Angry

Thank God that ALL of my Flight Simulator stuff, as well as family pictures, music, and other important things are on my External HDD safe and sound...... but now I have NO REGISTRY KEYS to my Flight Sim stuff, and I have to REINSTALL EVERYTHING .... AGAIN!!!!  Angry

...... If I had only had the WIN XP OEM CD so that I could have "explored" the CD and only gotten IE back then everything would have been fine.    Now, I have to try and remember where in God's name I had found all the files that I do not have .zip files for (cause I save EVERY ZIP FILE) and get the programs back...... only problem is, with the new install, all of my Internet Explorer FAVORITES are gone and I dont remember 3/4 of where I went to to find everything I had!!!!!  (punches a large hole in the sheet rock wall) Angry

.. Rhetorical Question::: Can my day/night get ANY better than it already is??!!

Problem Question.  Flight Sim stuff is all safe and sound on the E:/ is there any way to just REGEDIT "write" my own registry keys? and FS9 / x still work? or do i really have to Reinstall all my files again???? --- some of which I do not remember the registration codes to.....  Angry

{sorry mods, I stuck this in the wrong section.  Could you please move it to "software"???}

Update:::::

And what a relief!!!!  I just went in to my E:/Microsoft Games/FS9 and went to the FS9 Icon and double clicked it.... IT WORKS!! I never had to uninstall / reinstall it !!

I just checked REGEDIT, and low-and-behold ... there it is. It wrote its own Registry File without having to Reinstall it!!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!

Thats what you get for installing what they consider a RC (release client version) product which has not been released as a full update on Windows Update

there are a list of bugs and issues they are still working on with XP and other OS's

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/dd441788.aspx

It is actually faster however they still need to work out the last few bugs it has.. which is why they released it the way they did.. to let people use and scream about it so they can fix those last few bugs before officially posting it at Windows Update

LOL

thats just it, i did get it from MICROSOFT.   I opened IE7 to come here to check some posts, and the page said ALL NEW INTERNET EXPLORER 8 NOW AVAILABLE (or something close to that effect) GET IT FROM MICROSOFT (weblink here)

so I downloaded it, and tried to install it, but it corrupted my IE 7.  tried to Uninstall IE7 cause i had saved the IE7-SETUP.EXE to C:/ ..... no go... that corrupted WINXP.  Roll Eyes Angry so i had to reformat C:/ to reinstall Windows to get IE5 back so that I can go back through and reinstall 8; XP SP3; and every other thing that I downloaded / bought in the last 2 years.

The 1 good thing..... FS9 wrote its own Registry Key and I did not have to reinstall IT; but I will have to reinstall FSX.  No big deal, I fly 2004 more than I do X cause my laptop can only handle X on bare-bones minimums... I dont even see airport buildings, just the runways and a couple trees.  oh well. Cool Smiley

here is the link for it.... FROM MICROSOFT!!!!

INTERNET EXPLORER 8..... FOR WINXP
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/?ocid=ie8_s_460cbebd-1bc8-4e0...

This was the website that first opened telling me that IE 8 is available.  I downloaded it, and went to install it, and it corrupted IE7. Tried to uninstall IE7... and corrupted my WINXP.

But after installing WinXP, im downloading XP (SP3) right this second to get it back to where it was before the corruption, and i still have to look for a few more files.  1 of which being MSXML 4.0 so that I can run CRAPPY FSX.

After reading all of that, I am ever so glad I did not install IE8 per the recommendation of my computer guru. He loves it. I am a Firefox fanboy and will stay one...

I’ve got it installed on 3 different machines, one laptop with Vista 32bit/SP2 RC, one with Vista 64bit/SP2 RC and one with XP Pro/64bit Edition. All three had IE8 installed on a fresh Windows install (full reformat), not one of them has given me any problems.
