Can anyone tell me how to get rid of wing tanks and belly tanks? (Some of my favorite aircraft can only be found (so far) with tanks. I have no desire to upload a modified aircraft anywhere. I just want to fly it without the stupid tanks.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Moved it here so you will get some better answers from the pros we have here at SimV
You might want to include what kind of aircraft you are flying and what sim you are using to get some more accurate answers.
Welcome to SimV, glad to have you here!!

Thanks. Just joined and still learning my way around.

Thanks for the welcome mat. Looks like I can learn a lot here. Don't
know why I waited so long to join, been getting aircraft for a while.
And it's been a while since I've been on a board, but it's coming back
to me.

If it's a compiled model that you've downloaded, you can't.
BAsically, you can't modify a compiled model.

On some versions of the P-51D (eg. Warwick Carter's) you can drop the tanks. The key commands should be in the Readme. Some of the other types might come in several variations with different under-wing ordnance.

Yeah, I've got an F-14D in several variations. The rest that have tanks either have no provision for dropping tanks or it does not work. I'll just have to keep looking for a model that does not have tanks. Thanks.

Another thing that could be attempted (taking a suggestion from something I read at the MAIW forum) would be to open the texture file and apply a custom alpha channel to the part of the texture that is used on the tanks. Save the texture w/alpha and the part may very well become transparent. No guarantees and I haven't tried it myself, but seeing as how some items are made transparent in this way, it just might be worth a try.

Thanks but I have no idea how to do that. So far, I have only done editing when I had specific instructions on what to do. I still have a lot to learn in this area and my feeble old mind probably limits that severely.
