It seems that it's been given another reprieve. £960K by 1100 this morning, which to all intents and purposes is close enough to the £1M target to continue.
£500K in five days. Good going.

Best news I've heared all day. I've been watching the VTS website for a couple of days now and seeing the pledge ammount going up. Now all those folk who pledged need to pay up! Much as I'm looking forward to seeing 558 flying this summer, I can't help feeling that come this time next year I'll be watching the pledge-o-meter again wondering if the public will be willing to stump up another million quid to see it fly in 2010.

I'm sorry but without a major sponsor this was always going to be a pinch-penny operation. Sponsors won't be easy to get in the current economic climate, even for much smaller warbirds. What effect that will have on air shows this year remains to be seen. I read that at a least one Spitfire has been grounded already.

I hope this happens to be the case and it flies again. I will be making a sincere effort to see her this year if she is flying.
