What driver are you using for the 260? It should be the same that I use for the 280. I have a "superclocked" edition and have not messed with OCing the VC. What would I use to do that?

I tried EVGA Precision but I can't get it to hold on restart. Is RivaTuner for OCing the VC?

Try the higer TBM and also take the scenery and autogen down, that s what is most likely causing the stutters. i7 doesn't let you max out, it only improved smoothness a great deal. What AA setting are you using? If it is too high it can also make an impact on stutters.

EDIT: Also take mesh complexity down to about 80 and try running with no traffic as it uses a lot of CPU cycles.

try lowering your autogen density down a notch. are those black streaks you mentioned coming from the autogen?

I don't know what's causing the black streaks. I just cleaned and installed the new nVidia driver that was released yesterday. I dropped autogen down one notch but kept everything else the same.

Even though my frames go lower than the set 30, it does seem to be flying without stutters right now and I haven't seen any black streaks. However, I am getting an error message about a dll file when I launch FSX. I will find out what it says and post it later. My son is flying from Rome to Luxenburg at the moment Smiley

Hey Steve, got your message and will call Sat. The DLL error is most likely from one of your add on aircraft. Might want to reinstall them making sure you say ok to all the gauge files as safe to run all the time. I tried the differernt AF mask settings and 15 is what I am sticking with. When I first ggot my SR22 something didnt load properly and it stuttered very bad to the point I was about to ask for my money back. I reinstalled it and it was fine after that. I also went back and looked at your CFG and you have a very short list of trusted files for the aircraft gauges. Also dont know if this makes a difference but I have my aircraft installed on my FSX drive not my C drive. This is my trusted section of my CFG so you can see how many more I have than you. I know the level D has more than what you are showing for sure.

good to see your stutters are gone. it's always about making visual sacrifices for performance, in this case it was your autogen, but at 'very dense' you still get a very nice amount of autogen. the black streaks you were talking about happened to me too, especially when flying over large, forested areas. all I did was throw that autogen slider down a notch and they went away along with any stutters.

the .dll problem most likely is an addon that you have as jwenham said. no worries

I have the new i7 system running stable at 4.0ghz. I followed Nick's tune-up to the letter. I have Ultimate Terrain X (US, Canada, Europe), SceneryTech and most of the Aerosoft Mega Airports installed. I put all the world landclass files between the "urban" and "vegetation" UT files in the scenery library. All of my airports are on top of everything else. NHancer is on and working. See the full system in my signature.

I have tried flying at unlimited. Can't do it. It stutters so badly that I get airsick! haha So I have set my frames at 30. Most of the time the frames show 29.9 and flicker to 30 some. It just isn't "smooth". I still have little spots of micro stutters and stutters in turns. This really looks about the same as my Q6600 at 3.6mhz.

What can I try? Nick--suggestions? Do you ever get to Houston? If so, I'll take you to dinner if you can look at this in person!

Maybe your expectations was to high. If I run autogen on max I'll get stutters in FSX over dense areas with a lot of trees. IMO my new Core i7 pc presented a major performance gain compared to my old pc (C2D X6800, 8800GTX). I run my i7 940 at 3.8GHz. My GTX285 is running at 690MHz.

What do you use to OC the video card? I can't get EVGA Precision to stay locked to the settings.

I use Precision. What do you mean when you say stay locked? You can have a saved profile start with windows if you want. What I do is I have a profile made with the settings I want to use and when I run FSX iI activate the profile. You can even assign the profile to a key if you want to. The setting to make it start with windows is nder the wrench tool. The place where profiles are saved shows under the defunct test button area. You may have to click the little arrow to make it show. Then set up your settings including fan speed then click apply and then right click the slot for the number 1 profile. You can have up to 10 of them. When you right click it it will then be saved. To activate it simply LEFT click the profile you have made and then apply and you are good to go. When you are done just hit reset all to put it back to default for when FSX is not running.  I OC mine an additional 10% from the factor OC with no problems. I run my fan at 65.

Also dont freak out about the graph showing incorrect settings. The card downclocks itself when needed but the fan will remain at the speed set. Maybe that is what you mean when you say the setting wont stick.

A huge DUH to me.....

I used Nick's guide to set up FSX when I installed it on my system. However, I had forgotten to use his WinXP guide!! I can't believe I am so stupid! I had just switched my Q6600 system from Vista back to XP64 and ran the set-up on it. I was thinking the entire time that I had set it up on the i7. aaaahhhh!

I went to the guide this morning to follow the steps to run O&O and realized none of this has been done. I just went through everything and I'm now at the OO part. I had a whopping 57% defrag on this new drive! It's running the space defrag now.

After I complete all of this, I'll test FSX again.

The XFX GTX285 Black Edition is OC:ed by XFX. Previously I used RivaTuner to OC my 8800GTX. RivaTuner gives you the option to apply settings at startup of Windows. Very convenient.

That's nice  Smiley I just raised my OC from default 690 to 730MHz (memory from 1300 to 1330MHz). Still very low temps. I really love this i7 CPU and the GTX285  Smiley

Steve, I have been playing around with the slider settings and I changes my mesh complexity to 90, mesh res to 19, texture res to 60. I have scenery complexity to max and autogen at very dense, turned off cars and boats in UTX. I run Ultimate traffic and have also disabled the AI from activating the jetways. Almost forgot, TBM at 90.

With those settings I am getting very very nice perf even with airline traffic at 65 (using AIsmooth)

I find with my monitor the higher texture settings do nothing as far as improving the visuals so lowering it some helped to smooth things out even more. I went back and set teh AM to 7 which puts FSX on the 1st 3 cores. I then set AI Smooth and Flight Deck Companion to run on core 4. Just did a test from my hometown KATL (ImagineSim) using all the above settings at more or less stayed at 30 FPS very very smooth.

Well.... Put a fork in me Im running with this for now very happy. I am going to start a new post about the Affinity mask and see what others are doing.

Also the new released VC drivers are running good for me so far.
