I just got a new graphics card and a new processor: ATI HD 4850 and Intel Q6600. Everything works fine except FS.

FS, actually, performs fine ... partially. All I have to do to make it act funny is to press the ALT key. It takes a few seconds before i see the menu line, and then when I try to enter some of the menus, it takes something like 10 secs before anything happens. When I'm in the game  and I press ALT+A+A (or W) it takes approximately 15 seconds (at least) before i see a dialog to select a new plane or the airport. Something's definitely not right.

I've covered the basics: thoroughly de-installed nvidia drivers before installing Catalyst drivers, re-installed FS , and ... nothing!

Finally, I installed XP and all the rest, and then FS, and ... nothing again.

What gives? I think my PC is strong enough for me to move on to FSX, but I also want to be able to play FS9.

Does anyone have a clue, cause I don't?

Hello Ivan.   I once had a problem with a sticky FS & defragmented the drive & found things were quicker.   It can't hurt to try it.

I defrag my hard drives daily, so it's not an issue.

Try upgrading the video drivers with the most recent ATI CCC release for the 4850 from the ATI website

Make sure to properly uninstall them first, reboot before installing

Nick, thanks for trying but that's already done. Having newest drivers, defragmenting hard drives and things like that are second nature to me.

My guess is that my problems have something to do either with my board not supporting PCI Express 2.0 or some conflict between FS and .Net Framework. It really bugs me.

BTW, you were right about FSX not performing well on my computer. To be honest, I knew you would turn out to be right, but I tried anyway (I had to make sure).

Edit: I just found it doesn't behave this way in window mode. In window mode menus are really quick to respond. In full-screen mode, they are sluggish as hell!

Obviously, asking that first questions didn't produce any results. Instead, let me ask a different one: does anyone have a PC with HD4850 card that works fine in FS 2004? No latency when entering menus and everything else runs fine?

Is there really no one who has ATI 4850 card that either works or doesn't work with FS2004 and/or FSX. What, no one uses that card with FS?!

I sent a complaint to AMD customer care, but they say it might be the isolated case with my card. So if anyone is willing to write whether his card works fine in FS or acts like mine, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

I have the same problem, but it does not bother me.

I have to just wait abit for fs to load that bar, I use a 4670 which is 2 models down from the 4850 Wink

Thank you my good man. I don't suppose you would be interested in reporting that problem to AMD? They seem to know nothing about it and mybe they'll listen to you (after all, you have AMD processor as well as ATI card,  and I don't) Smiley

Anyone else?
If we let them know they could probably fix it.

The menus in fs9 are VERY slow. I had same problem with my old computer, and the computer before that. Current computer doesn't have fs9.

I've always had slow menus in FS9 when in full screen mode. In fact, I only run in windowed mode (maximized) for that very reason. I can't say whether or not it's an ATI issue or not, but those are the only cards I've ever used. (I'm not a fanboy, that's just how it worked out. Wink )

Strange! Previously I had Radeon 9200,9600XT and X1300, GForce 7300GT and 8600GT and menus were always quick.
