Okay I think I know the answer to this question but I want to ask anyway. Can a true IFF system be purchased from Collins or someone like that for installation into an aircraft? It's an ex-military aircraft and may be again.

I would doubt it, IFF involves codes etc and I would think that the military would not want enemy aircraft flying in on friendly IFF coding. TCAS is about as close as you are going to get I would have thought.

You could buy one with an IFF capability, but it would be utterly pointless due to the way IFF works.

Unless you intend to fly military operations in some of the less desirable areas of the globe, not as such. In simple terms it's just additional transponder modes which allow the data to be encrypted.

You could probably get it, but it would be use less with out the codes needed to make it useful.
