My son needs a new GC and I was thinking about this one...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121285

Are the GTX series good for FSX?  They spec out pretty high for the money it seems to me.  I heard the 8800 GT was a hot one for FSX, but they seem a bit pale by comparision to this one??

Let me add that he uses the AMD 6000 X2 processor, and currently the 7800GTX GC.  I don't want to throw money at it and have an overkill situation, but just want the best bang for the buck!
Anyone?

FSX runs fine... the problem
is you or your system

hes running a slow proc by compare of what those 260/280 cards are made for so a 260 is way overkill for it and he will never see the cards true ability

The 8800GT is fine and its even going to be faster than that proc but at least its a balance of perf over CPU

Thanks Nick.....I was wondering if you can tell me if there is another faster processor for the AM2 (940) socket.  If I'm not mistaken there is only a 6400 or 6600 and that's the top for that socket.

I will take your advise for the GC.....makes sense to me.  But since FSX is so processor intensive, maybe I'd like to upgrade there as well.  I'm not stuck on AMD, but when I began using them they were the most bang for the buck...at least AFAIK.

Thanks again

I currently run a similar processor and it sucks basically. Sometime (when I have the money) I am going to buy a new motherboard and buy the Q6600. You'd be better off to switch to Intel than to keep to AMD. Wink

Hes not going anywhere on AMD with FSX.. thats for sure

so the card will help but its not going to be a massive change
