Hey guys,

I thought that a few of you may enjoy doing a short flight after A1's tour on Saturday, so I created the following for those interested:

Please read all of the following carefully!

Flight: Alderney   -to-   Jersey   -to-   Dinard, France.

I would highly, highly, highly, recommend that you obtain the following addons before doing this flight with me. It will make the flight much more enjoyable, and is pretty much the theme of this flight!  Smiley

Scenery:
Alderney:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=69935&CatID=fs2004scen

Jersey:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=69933&CatID=fs2004scen

St. Malo, Dinard, France:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=46360&CatID=fs2004scen

Aircraft:
Britten Norman BN-2A "Islander"
Download "BN-2A: D-IBNA" from:
http://www.m-r-software.de/
(Also requires download and installation of:
BN32Rest.zip
BN32Snd2.zip)

Livery:
bn2_islander_blue_islands_g-xaxa_v1.zip
At Avsim.com

You're also free to use the included German livery if you wish!

Copy the following to the Islander Aircraft.cfg to install the livery, replacing the xx with the next number in the sequence. (1, 2, 3, etc.)
If you don't have an aicraft.cfg file in the Islander folder yet, run the "BN_Install" application in the aircraft folder. It looks like a white rectangle with a teal/green edge on top. It will create the aircraft.cfg.
Please copy and paste what I specifically have here, for the aircraft.cfg. I made some minor changes to be sure that everything shows up correctly.

[fltsim.xx]
title=BN-2B-G-XAXA_Blue Islands
sim=BN2
model=mka
panel=
sound=
texture=G-XAXA
checklists=BN2B_check.txt
description=BN-2B-26 Islander G-XAXA
atc_airline=BLUE ISLAND
atc_id=GXAXA
atc_flight_number=
ui_manufacturer=Britten Norman
ui_type=BN-2A
ui_variation=Blue Islands G-XAXA
atc_heavy=0
atc_parking_codes=XAX
atc_parking_types=GATE,RAMP

3. Enjoy your new Islander!
Again, you're also free to use the included German livery instead, if you wish!
Upon installation of this addon livery, your plane should look like this:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Blue-Islands/Britten-Norman-BN-2A-26-Islander/112...

Weather:
To establish weather conditions that are as close to the same for everyone as possible, use the default weather theme "Gray & Rainy" in the weather selection menu.

Again, the flight will be from Alderney, UK to Jersey, UK, to Dinard, St. Malo, France.

We will be landing at both Jersey and Dinard. Total distance is around 70 nautical miles.

I hope to see some of you on Saturday!  Smiley

-Sean

EDIT: DECIDED ON A DIFFERENT RECOMMENDED ADDON LIVERY INSTEAD OF AURIGNY. PLEASE SEE NEW INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE.
EDITED AT 8:15PM same day.

Comments? Suggestions?
I can reschedule if people can't show up...
I have all of next week off of college for Thanksgiving, so....most days should be good around then too, if Saturday wouldn't work.
I'll be doing a practice run online today.

This was posted before A1's trip last Saturday, and Shane and I basically did a very pleasant practice run on that day.
To follow up, this flight will be held again, this coming Saturday, after A1's tour.

As far as addons go, I'm sure Shane will vouch for this, but if you only choose to download one of my suggested addons for this trip, I would highly suggest that you get the French scenery.
It is one of the best freeware sceneries for FS2004!

I just installed the aircraft and went for a practice flight... It's impossible to fly that plane. I mean... is it just me or does that plane keep bouncing wildly up and down in the air making it impossible to trim it to level flight?

Huh

Grin I had that same problem! It get's even worse with turbulence effects turned on and using real world weather. Wink When Sean and I did the practice run, I had so much trim on that plane the nose was at a constant 10 degree upward pitch, Undecided But it handles very nicely when stick flying around the scenery. The VC on that plane is worth it IMO.
But I plan on tweaking my cfg a little before the next flight. Smiley

Shane, let me know if you get that bouncing to go away after you tweak the aircraft.cfg. Honestly, I don't think I can fly the entire trip with that bouncing. What makes it even worse is that I use TrackIR4, and the effect just seems much worse when your head/view is still but your plane is changing positions in the screen due to all the bouncing!  Grin

Now that brings up an interesting question. This plane has some kind of dynamic camera movement to it when in the VC mode, makes it look like your head is bouncing around on bumpy surfaces and when hitting turbulence. Does this bouncing you have happen in all views or just the VC? If it's only in VC mode, I would try not using the TrackIR.
But it is still a touchy bugger. Grin

It's only in the VC view that it happens but it's still so darn hard to control it and keep it level that I don't think I'll make this trip with you guys unless Sean gives me the permission to use a different plane that has the approximate same cruise speed.

I looked into it and didn't realize that it would cause problems for track-IR users...should have thought of that!
Of course you can use a different plane! Just let me know what it will be, and I would appreciate it if the plane cruised at a similar speed. (Possibly the 120-150 knot range)
The plane itself is a pretty solid flyer when consulting the gauges, and I think that the built in head shake effect is just making it appear to be all over the place when in actuality it is pretty solid, but again, you can now use another other similarly performing plane you wish, just let me know.  Wink
I'll do a little browsing too and I'll try to come up with one or two more alternate airframes to use as well.

Sorry,
-Sean

EDIT:

If I may suggest two alternate airframes right now:
The "FS2004 Aero Commander 520: Package" available halfway down this page:
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props115.htm

And, the "FS2004 Howard 500 Package with VC"
http://www.simviation.com/fs2004props25.htm

I apologize for the difficulties, and I hope to see both of you online in the coming days, if you can.  Wink

Sean, thank you very much for your help. I've flown the Howard 500 before and it's unbelievable how good a job Milton Shupe did with it. I'll give the Aero Commander 520 a look (it looks very appealing to me).

Also, Shane actually sent me an edited section of the BN2A aircraft.cfg and it made a big difference, but it brought problems with the light positioning and the VC view.

Thanks again for the help. I can't wait to finally fly online with you guys for the first time. Hopefully nothing pops up and I will have time to do so.
