Got a fast plane and want an interesting way to use it?

I am proposing a race, JFK to LAX. Any plane you wish real or fictional.
You are responsible for your route.

I only suggest one very important rule to keep it interesting and fair:

No unlimited fuel. This would mean some fast fighters could hold their own against the likes of the SR-71,X-15. and XB-70. Wink Fuel effeciency will be just as important as overall speed.
Fuel stops will be allowed if you need them. A lot of aircraft won't need to refuel at all.

Determining winner can be done in a couple of ways.

A. We can do it Cannonball run style, where best time wins.
                               OR
B.Everyone take off, get to a predetermined altitude and location and first one there wins. (I think this way would be more fun!)

The event would be held on a Saturday so as many people as possible can make it. Time of day will be determined to make it easier for people of all time zones to participate.

Please let me know if you're interested. I have completed this trip myself in under an hour in several aircraft, so it shouldn't take too long.
Hope to see some participation on this one to give the old simviation server a workout! Wink

Chicago to Los Angeles following Route 66 takes would take long enough on my Super-Bike... Shocked...

Doing the similar route in my trusty Cessna 150 Aerobat form JFK to KLAX. will take much too long, I'm afraid... Cry...!

The flight from KSFO to KLAX following Highway 5, or Highway 101, is plenty long enough for me to be sat in my Trusty Beech Baron!... Grin...!

F...G-BPLF.....a "short flight" enthusiast... Grin...!

I had thought about the time shift thing and slew also. But I have done this route in just about every fast plane out there, So I am fairly certain I know what the minimum time to complete is. Also I could have my laptop running with the server's GPS map up to make sure. Wink
It would be obvious if someone was just cruising along the map while the rest of us were still a couple of states behind. Cheesy

The whole point of this is just to have some fun. I think a prop based race would be kinda neat too. Each weekend start a new state, award points formula 1 style. Just looking for ways to utilize this awsome server we have here. Wink  It is so nice to be able to fly online without the fear of being booted off suddenly. Smiley

Last night I did find an aircraft that completed this trip in 15minutes! Shocked Shocked No joke! So the whole fictional aircraft thing might have to be rethought. Grin

So with at least 1 vote of enthusiasm, I can have hope that we can pull this off. It would be great to have a bunch of us from the forums flying together having some fun with something we all share in common and enjoy so much. Cool

Paul, you could always pimp out your beech baron with an extra 400,000 lb's of thrust.

How did that become 5 minutes?
No it was the futurama spacecraft. 99,999ft at full speed! It said the trip would take 35minutes but my timepiece said differently.
Just tried it online again with the MIG-25, took three fuel stops. That thing is a gas hog! The hummer of the skies! Grin

And how many extra pounds of thrust would rip the baron's wings off? Grin

They wouldn't rip off if Paul braught Chuck Norris on board, Chuck would break the extra thrust off the baron's wings  Smiley
