OK, Ellie gave me the go for the computer I have to run their avionics. It should have plenty of power to run it.

How do I hook them up? haha I have my FSX computer running Vista 64 and the avionics computer running Windows XP. I was going to install Vista on the avionics computer but a box came up that said I cannot run Vista on this hardware. Maybe it's too old?

Can I connect a crossover cable to both? John---are you getting your info to the other computers wirelessly or with a router? Since I only have two computers, I was going to skip the router and go straight together.

How do I get them to see each other? What are the first steps with FSUIPC and WideFS? I purchased them but have not installed it yet. Do they go on both computers?

Steve,

Before ANYTHING else... you HAVE to have the network set up correctly.  If that is not done..... you'll have scads of glitches and problems at the least and it simply won't work at all at the most.

SO... forget the Ellie stuff for right now.  Get the network set up FIRST.

I reccommend the book "Home Networking for Dummies"...... I've used it to get started.   Grin Grin Grin

I use a wired 100 mbit Cisco Systems Linksys 8 port network switch for the pit.... NOT a "router".  This is because at the moment there are already four computers involved...and eventually there will be about seven.  The key is SWITCH...... faster.

For just two machines... I THINK a crossover cable is al that you need..... but I am NOT a network guru guy.

Use the network setup wizzard to do this on the main FS and Vista machine (I guess).  It should prompt you through the network setup pretty well.  I HOPE that it works with XP well..... don't know.  Once you have the two machines seeing each other in the same workgroup, change from dynamic IP addresses to fixed IP addresses.  You'll thank me later when the pit gets motre complicated (it will  Wink ).

Once all of that is working OK and you can share folders and such freely and get good "pings" back and forth (both ways), you'll need to install the paid version of FSUIPC on the main machine, and the version of WideServer (part of WideFS) on there too (unless you are on FSX.... where the wideserver is PART of that version of FSUIPC itself).  Then install Wideclient on the other "Ellie" machine.

Then install the Ellie avionics you bought.

Gotta go now.  Let me know how you are making out.

best,

.....................john

Thanks, I'll use your guide. Seems easy enough! haha We'll see....

One other thought here: this is for my son so I am not as well versed in the the game. He flies FSX. Currently, when I watch him fly I see a part of the MIP on the screen. When he has the glass avionics on the cockpit MIP, he won't need that, right? Is it possible to see only the outside view like you are looking through the windshield? We have the 3-22" monitors using the TH2G for the outside screens. The bezels line up with the "approx" position of the windshield dividers.

Steve,

The goal is to have the "out the windscreen" view be ONLY the outside.  If you look at the picture on my "signature" below you'll see that the windows of the pit look out onto the "outside".  All of the instruments (Ellie Aviaonics) are on the other monitors bhind the MIP facing.

You have to adjust the view you are using in the sim to do this.  Select or create a view that has no panels showing.

best,

for that you can simply switch out to 2D view mode ( no DVC anymore, since it's coming to life anyways Wink ), then press shift+1 to disable the main panel, then just adjust zoom as desired and done
