My computer was on today, and the power went out do to high winds, and when I try to reboot it I get the message "Can not start Windows the file "Windows/system32/config/system is corrupt or missing, please insert the Windows Install disc and press 'r' at the first screen." So I do all that, my question then becomes now what? Huh I get a MS-DOS screen with like a million options, what should I do to repair the file, because a wipe of the hard drive and reinstalling Windows is not an option as there are files on there that I can't afford to lose...

You just have to manually restore the files from their backups.  A minor PITA but no reinstall necessary.  It happened to me a month ago.

How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting

Now when I try to restart in Safe mode I get this error lass.exe "The specified password does not match the one in the password blank." I don't even know what the error message truly says because it flashes on the screen for a second before Windows restarts, so I don't get time to read it. Embarrassed
Edited:
Ok I've redone the steps and now when I try to enter the repair on the CD I get asked for the admin password. The first time it didn't ask for one. I've tried entering my account password and it says it is incorrect. I haven't a clue what the admin password is....
