I am 14.
My viewpoint today reflects the viewpoint I had when I was 11.
But profit has to be made somewhere, and you are paying for a SUPREME product that is made for professional simmers.
Professional simming/by the numbers/book = niche market, as Sean has stated.
Tell me, when was the last time you flew the default 747 while never exceeding 250 KIA below FL100, not exceeding 90% N1 on takeoff and throttling back for passenger comfort in a climb? If you haven't, well, the PMDG 747/MD-11 isn't for you.
Now, most simmers will not do the above. They don't worry about realism, and are content with the default stuff/whatever they can scrounge up on the net. No point pricing it at $39.95 AUD then.
PMDG also knows that people will pay alot of money to accomplish the above, if they are interested. To be fair, $115 is VERY cheap.
P.S: Sorry for the tone set in this post. You just have to understand, that they worked so hard to bring us this great plane, and yet people complain because they aren't giving their work away for free.

Hey, when did I ever say they should give it away for free? Anyways, the developers of Flight Simulator spent alot of time to bring us a great game that allows you to at least get the chance to practice aviation in your own home. Your lucky the price of the game isn't skyrocketing.
Anyway, why is alexander talking about Iceland. I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. I BUY WITH AUSTRALIAN MONEY. Our dollar is going way down now anyway.
Oh, and by the way, I'm 13. Still youngest.

I think we would all like PMDG to be cheaper. Infact, I would like everything to become cheaper. However, PMDG obviously set the price as it is for a reason - to cover expenses and make money.
The MD-11 has been in development for about eight years, and is head and shoulders above any other addon, so as a high end product with high development costs, it will carry a high price tag, particularly as the market for these addons is a niche. Perhaps if they sold a few million PMDG MD-11 it would cost $5 each.
Both the 747 and MD-11 are light years ahead of the default aircraft. The default 747 is like the default Cessna, but with a new 3d model and vacuum cleaner sounds. The avionics on the MD-11 are so sophisticated it's not even funny. In my opinion, if you think it's not much better than default then you haven't used it to even 10% of what it details.

It is terrible the OP downloaded the wrong file. You never activated it, and bought the file previously, so I think they would understand...
Try asking on the forum?
BTW.... visited this forum when I was 6-9, I forget. I didn't know how to install an addon, I just chucked the .zip in the FS98 aircraft folder.

I'm talking about Iceland because THEY deserve sympathy, since you're whining about 83$ (100 AUD I would believe), yet for them it would be 10,000$ right now.
Oh, and by the way, I'm also 13.

AUD$117.05 precisely - too expensive, but I don't mind. 9,058.81 ISK. Holy crap! BL Iceland - hope it gets better.

Wait a bit for PMDG to get back to you, they will. I was charged twice when I bought the 747 and it took 2 weeks but it was corrected. PMDG planes are so far ahead of anything out there, they should be double what they are charging. You will not find planes closer to a real simulation than PMDG. Think about it this way, if you use it once a week for the next 2 years it works out to be less than a dollar per flight. Each flight is different too. Its worth every penny! Todd

Ok...hopefully everyone can relax a little bit. This is obviously a controversial issue, but I'm sure the last thing we need is for people to start getting even more snippy with each other. We just need to have a civil conversation about the issues at hand. Age should not even be an issue here. I have seen plenty of young people with A LOT more maturity than many older folks in my experiences, and of course you can have the opposite situation as well. Everyone's input is valuable, as long as it is constructive to the discussion.
So...drop the age comparisons, they mean (or should mean) nothing.
AussyPilot, I understand that you're frustrated with your purchase circumstance. I would be too if I was charged for the wrong thing, and I believe that you have every right in the world to ask about their pricing policies. I don't think your a pirate, or have any intention of coming across as one. The main issue I think people have here is the attitude that you originally came across with, which I think was purely out of frustration. While I can't speak for everyone here, I'll just say that I don't think people are trying to accuse you of anything negative.
I think this note goes for everybody, me included:
Mind your attitude.
It's quite simple, but it's something that EVERYONE can slip up on from time to time.
I am interested in continuing the discussion of payware pricing policies, as long as it remains civil. I personally find this to be a very interesting topic, and hopefully those with more experience in economics can continue to chime in with their reasoning as to why prices are the way they are.
I am also very interested to hear a response from Nitropower in regard to his actions, which in turn will probably lead to a discussion on copyright infringement, which I believe would also be beneficial for many to witness, as long as the discussion remains respectful to others...unless someone acts blatantly stupid, again.
I don't have a background in economics, so I shouldn't really chime in a lot with my theories on PMDG's pricing beliefs, and I definitely cannot speak for them, but I hope to continue to contribute to this important discussion with the knowledge that I
do
have.
Thank you,
-Sean

I guess its priced just like everything else in life. PMDG belive (with good reason based on the 747-400) that they produce some of the best products for fs out there. They charge accordingly.
Ferrari produce cars just like anyoe else - they percive them to be the best out there in the market they are aimed at and charge accordingly. People buy them do they not?
Compare Kia with say BMW. You pay a lot less for the Kia, but youd probably rather have the BMW. BMW are percived to make high quality cars and charge accordingly based on there past products.
Abacus aircraft are pretty basic. Youd probably rather have a PMDG aircraft, but the abacus aircraft is priced a lot lower. Your expectations are also a lot lower to just what the product will be like.
I fully understand the issue with the web site though. Id be pretty annoyed also. But PMDG seem quite good with customer service from what ive read and seen.

Ok, thanks.
All I was doing at the beginning was saying that I just think its silly to pay that much. All I'm trying to say is That
I
won't buy them. You can go buy them. Go ahead. Spend all your money. All I'm saying is that I won't.
Oh and your right, why the hell are we fighting about our ages. I feel stupid for bringing it up.

As I said earlier, it's out of my price range, so if that "spend all your money" comment was directed at me, I'm afraid that the tone I was intending in my previous post was lost.
I did not mean for my previous post, or any of them for that matter, to be condescending or judgmental based on someone's financial status. While I could indeed afford PMDG's aircraft, I still consider them to be too expensive, so I just don't buy them. That's it, end of story on that product, when making my decisions.
Again, I understand that you will not spend money on their products. I won't either based on those prices, and I don't think it's necessary to get into a showoff situation with what addons you can and can't get. (The showoff thing isn't directed at you specifically, that's just how a lot of these threads seem to appear to me, in part to other members contributions.)
The following is directed at everyone (This is not a slight to Aussy, or anybody else, as much as some here may want to think otherwise):
If, for whatever reason, you can't afford a product, by all means, talk about it if you wish, especially if you think the pricing will affect others decisions (as this one has), but don't turn it into a big, snippy, argument.
Instead, perhaps turn it into a civil, non-condescending, informative, drama-free, discussion.
As I said previously, the biggest influence in how a discussion goes, whether it is on a forum, on the phone, or face to face, is how the attitudes of the participating individuals are.
I'm still interested in seeing the responses of "ThatOnePerson", and "NitroPower", to this thread, so please speak up guys.
Have a good night/day guys, and I hope that those who are participating in this discussion will not harbor ill feelings for one another due to a difference in opinions
, although a difference in actions is quite different, and I think most of us here understand the importance of upholding legal standards. If you see evidence of copyright infringement (piracy), please report it!
EDIT: And for any forum's famous last words
: Unless I feel that it is absolutely necessary for me to comment further on my stance, I will abstain from adding to this discussion, and instead choose to observe what I hope can be the tail end of an argument, and what will transform into a polite discussion and happy resolution to the issues that everyone is having, although I have a feeling that I will have to defend this post.

Ok, when I said "spend all your money", I didn't mean you have no money or you spennd too much money on addons, it was sort of a metaphor, in a way, I think.
. I wasn't ever trying to annoy anyone even if I did, so I'm sorry. I just think you guys over-reacted to a post that wasn't meant to be that serious. If I bugged anyone I'm sorry.

Chill out guys
Hopefully all will get sorted out with PMDG.
Perhaps if you could find your order details for the 747 that might help.
Nitro has been warned and is currently 'under discussion'...
Perhaps this thread could now be laid to rest??
