The following is an unbelievably useful "real world" commercial aviation reference site for the home cockpit builder.

For example, I use the SA-WXR stand alone radar program in my pit....which emulates the real Collins 2100 unit within the constraints of the FS2004 model.  On this site is the 222 .pdf operations manual for that real unit....including a wx radar "primer".  

There is also a .pdf file about interpreting weather radar displays.

There are TONS of other documents intended for real commercial pilot's study.  You can learn a lot.
