I have a router. Shocked

I am setting it up as best I could but if there are any problems with disconnects this Saturday's tours please forgive me. If the moment I see a person having difficulty logging into multiplayer I'll log out and let you all fly without problems.

i am testing stuff with it now.

This is just a notice to all fellow multiplayer fans that are on my tours. Wink

The dreaded Router... Angry...!

For many, many years I have been flying on various Multiplayer Servers with the aid of my simple USB Plug and Play ADSL Wired Thomson Modem....
...with NO ROUTER..and no Port problems.

I recently changed my Service Provider, who supplied me with the usual FREE Modem....A SmartAX MT 882 ADSL Ethernet/USB Wired Modem/Router
...unfortunately is had a built-in Router, and try as I might for days, I could find no way to "enable" the elusive Ports via the internal software, which therefore prevented me from joining in any Multiplayer activities!

so...

To cure these problems, I dumped the Modem/Router in a hole in my Garden, and rushed round to my local Computer Retailer and purchased a simple, cheap (£10) USB, ADSL Plug and Play Wired Modem*.....WITHOUT a ROUTER.

Problem solved completely. Instant access, and every single Port is shown as open automatically!
Its speed, (6+ Mb/s), is actually faster than the supplied Wired Ethernet Modem/Router!

Being a single Computer, etc, user, I have no use for a Router, which only gives various unnecessary problems, and an ordinary USB Wired Modem suits all my needs, including playing various on-line Games!

F...G-BPLF.... Smiley.. Smiley...!

* Zoom 5510 Modem....>>>

Most of my Internet time is spent daily flying on-line with various Flight Sim Servers, so unhindered Multiplayer access is most important to me... Kiss...!

I use a router its just a matter of getting the ports setup correctly, which can be a process that can take longer than repainting the Golden Gate Bridge. Tongue

...Of course mine still doesn't work for all on-line games so must switch the ethernet cable from my computer into by modem, therefore bypassing the router. Smiley

I have tested the router with COD4 and it works fine. So that's one program down. Wink

Only one million more to go... Tongue

...I noticed most games that use GameSpy don't work with my router, like BF2, FSX (works fine through FSHost though).

I spent ages trying to open the ports in my new MT 882 Router by examining the Routers internal Software*, but nothing in the programme indicated where to enter the Port addresses that required opening!!

To try and resolve the Port Forwarding in my SmartAX MT882 combined Modem/Router, I downloaded the following program and paid £15 for the Key...>>>>

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Huawei/SmartAX-MT882/...

All it was able to do was to open one port, "23456", for Sim V's Server for FS 2004, but no further ports, including the important Port for my FS Navigator, and Worlds Serious Pilots Server, so that was £15 wasted!

Now, having done away with the Router completely, I have no further Port problems with any of the Servers or any of my Games!... Smiley...!

I've got no time, or patience for Routers now. They are more trouble than they are worth!

F. ...G-BPLF... Cool...!

I run a Linksys WRT54G v6 router and a Linksys Wireless Buddy N (adapter Wink) and I get a ping of 200-350. All depends on your ISP really. Routers do too but not nearly as much. AT&T Smiley

I dumped my troublesome Smart MT 882 Router 3 Hours 2 minutes after installing it, and replaced it with a simple, straight-forward, bog-standard, Zoom Wired Modem (£10).to solve all the various problems with using a Router in On-Line Multiplayer sessions..Wink...!

No problems on any Site I visit now, Flight Sim, or otherwise... Smiley...!

I really cant see many good reasons for using a Router as well as a Modem!

You can never be sure that you have cured all the "Port-Forwarding" problems when using a Router on-line...!

Modem-only is the way to go to avoid on-line Multiplayer problems...Wink...!

F...G-BPLF...a regular Multiplayer Flyer...Wink..!
