Well I don't really care what they make. Since FSX is on the market they have been developing stuff for that. Fewer and fewer things are being made for FS9. But if I look into the downloadsection of this site (or some other's) I can still find thousands of free things I've never tried before in FS9. The fact that the payware companies aren't developing anymore for FS9 is just a way to do business. Besides I already have all Carenado planes, so what do I care. Ofcourse it's not fun when someone makes a cool looking prop and it's FSX only but I'm fine with that. You simply can't have everything...

It may be a bad idea for you, but not a bad idea for all those using FSX (probably 50% of the FS community now and counting).

Imo there's no point in making FS9 addons anymore because by next year the market will be almost saturated. I know those of you who will disagree will probably be very keen AES users. However, in reality, even though it is probably the best addon out there, do you really think FS9 sceneries which use it will continue to sell very well in the next few years? Anyway it is clear that FSX only addons are very good for FPS.

The reason why most people in IVAO are using FS9 is because FS9 has all the sceneries now so it's easier for online flying.

PS: Go to sim market and you'll see 3/5 addons in the best sellers of the week are FSX only addons.

You have to look at it from another perspective. First off, there are already tons of addons available for FS9

And second, think of the payware companies. They are going to be a little more hesitent to invest and build a product for a simulator that has been around for several years, when a newer version of FS has already been out for a couple years.

First, Yes it's a bad idea!
I have FS9 and FSX, I bought FSX some time after it came out, tried it for a wile then uninstalled it put it back in it's box and it has been sitting on the shelf ever since.
Myself and many others think it will take years for FSX to even come close to being as fun and user friendly as FS9.
FS9 all the way

I voted no cause I see the trend, I for one would love to use FSX but there is just no way even with nickN guide on setting it up my local airport was fine but JFK stuttering beyond words. Maybe one day I'll have the money to build a machine but house payments and 300 other bills come first. maybe by fs14 I'll be ready for FSX Grin Cry

I believe that it's about time they go FSX only, as when they try to reverse compatable it, they just screw it all up for the SP2/DX10 users.

I have another spin on this, I have so much time and money invested in FSX there is probably no way I will ever buy FS11.  When I decided that I wanted FSX I went and bought a new PC.  I specifically asked the salesman if it would run FSX and of course the answer was "Sure, it will run FSX great!".  Well one GTX8800, one PSU and four meg of ram later it still will not run FSX as great as I would like.  The bottle neck is the CPU and to do anything with the CPU I would have to get a new mobo.

I have spent so much time in adding all the free add-ons not to mention all the time and money in all the payware add-ons that I just do not see me ever getting FS11.

Needless to say there is also all the time spent on NickN's tweaks.  Thank God for Nick, because without his XP and FSX tweaks I would be so pissed off at my PC, the PC salesman (Fry's) and MS it would not even be funny.

Now for the interesting part, I have been a MSFS user since 1987 when I got my first home PC.  I did not even know sites like this existed until late 2006 / early 2007, I did not even know you could buy scenery addons for FS, or at least if I saw them in the computer store I never paid any attention to them.  I ran across some at Fry's in late 2006 and that is when I decided to buy the new PC and jump to FSX.  I will have to say that this site and the people that occupy it has increased my FS knowledge and experience so much that what I have gained from this site is "PRICELESS".

In my opinion they are not a god idea at the moment...

But taking into account different arguments posted above im starting to shift uncomfortably onto the fence which is unusual for me.

As the market is fairly saturated and therefore people are less likely to buy addons for fs9 now (even though i still do!).  However i think that there are a couple of big markets out there which havent really been looked at yet.

One would be to possibly get rights to old/er fs9 sceneries and update them into fsx... obviously not charging as much as the new fsx stuff but there we go.

The other would be to update all the old fs9 addons which are heavy on frames and are not particularly good, and to update them quite nicely, make them look better and more accurate and easier on frames and to re-release them for a small amount of money compaired to others. There are a number of old sceneries out there which are nothing cimpared to others on the market and the companies that have made them could get a good bit of money from updating them and releasing them for half of the price of the other sceneries out there...?

The big ticker here is that FS9 developed addons ported to FSX simply cannot perform as well as FSX developed add-ons, which cannot be ported to FS9, and that is the flaw I was explaining in my first post. If MS had taken backwards compatability into account, I don't think we would be having this poll.

Nothing against FSX mind you, just griping about a bad move on MS's part IMHO, unless it was absolutely necessary to change everything in order for FSX to work the way they wanted.

(Editing this into this post so as to not flood this thread with my own posts)
