I saw a letter to the editor in PC Pilot about using a Touch Screen for the CDU and he said it works PERFECTLY! He uses a 10.2 touch screen, undocks the CDU and can program all the buttons by touching the screen. PC Pilot plans to do an "in-depth" report on this in the near future.

Got me thinking.....

What do you guys think of this idea? Can I do this with the aftermarket CDU glass or just use the one in FSX (seems to be good). Also, what about using a touch screen for the overhead panel too.

This seems like a very cost effective idea. If it works....

Thoughts?

Anyone do this?

They show it on a video by Vmax Systems (http://www.simpilot.com) but don't talk about how they make it.

Im very interrested in that too.

I have in mind, too make a GPS Touchscreen for my upcoming cockpit.

Havent seen any guides about this, but would be awesome and cheep idea.

edit:

After some search, it seems that is not easy too do. But i saw something that might work:
http://www.xenarc.com/product/index-monitor.html

"For In-Car Computing, PC, Server, and Other VGA Use"

they have 7-8-10,4-12,1 and 15 inch. screens

Also find this http://www.lilliput.cn/
Very popular with those who are making CarPC, they using it for Mediaplayer and then we should be able too use it for FS.

Im very close too buy a 10,4 inch for GPS  Smiley

Cheers

I contacted VMax and they said that they use a Lilliput touchscreen for the CDU and Project Magenta software. PM is too expensive.

Is there any ONE software that can be used that's not too expensive? I don't want to use multiple products if possible.

You could always try to make a panel in Touch Buddy: http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/

I have never seen Touch Buddy before. Do they have a website other than the forum? I would like to see info about this.

Touch-Buddy is nice you can setup your profile with a transparent layer which can be used to display the cdu screen by running touch buddy over the cdu application...

Of course you will need to develop the profile yourself since one currently does not exist

I just don't think I need to use Touch Buddy.

Can't I put a CDU from Sim Avionics or even the FSX CDU and use a touch screen to press the buttons? It would think it's the same as a mouse press.

The flight sim video at Vmax uses a Lilliput 8" touch screen and Project Magenta.

Thoughts?

I got a touchscreen laptop and it working like a mouse. Just without a
cursor.

But not sure, what software its the best for the job.
If you want CDU from Sim Avionics its cost £199  Cry
I think its very expencive, so i hope theres any other way too get this working.

I will buy a Lilliput touchscreen soon, just need too find out how big screen i should get for a GPS.
