when I install a FSX plane from the site and place it in the main aircraft folder, FSX recognizes the plane, shows me the thumbnail, lets me fly the plane if I select it,...

but when I click on the "Select an Aircraft screen" (the screen where you can change Details in the lower right corner) and choose my bird, in the window where you'd see it spinning, it doesn't appear. The window is just blank. What did I forget to move and to where?

Most likely, it is a texture thing.  Some of the newest true FSX add-ons use 2024X2024 BMPs or DDS formats.  If your computer does not have a video card, its possible that is the cause.  I cannot see Alrot's recent 707 or Citation 500 for that reason.

There were a few others like that too, but I resized the textures to 1012X1012 with BXTBMP and Paintshop, and even though their lettering and insignia are a bit fuzzy, I can at lesast see them. Smiley

Which aircraft are you not seeing?

Or simply can be a misspell thing in aircraft .cfg you have to tell us what plane is it so we can check ..

Boikat all the real FSX-SDK models are comming using 2048x2048 dds buddy , if you have a chance at least to buy a 6200 agp I suggest you do it , they are very cheap Im using one in the same machine I make the airplanes.

I didn't want to release a smaller 1024x1024 version because all details get lost in smaller size ..

Yup.  I plan on getting a video card in August  The one you mentioned looks like a pretty good bargan considering how much a video card can cost. I'll have to see how that goes, since I also have to replace the blower motor on my central air conditioner, first.  Cheesy

Oh, it happens to quite a few. Today, I reinstalled all my downloaded birds, and still didn't fix the issue. They all show up in the "Select a Plane" screen (thumbnails), but when you select one and then click on "Details" (to append the prefix "Heavy") ones that aren't showing up (the preview rotating view window stays blank) are:

The Bombardier 60 Series, the MD-520N chopper series, the Airbus A330-300RR/SATCOM (& non-SATCOM planes), the Bell Bell 47G2's, (yes, Bell shows twice on the thumbnails screen in the bird titles), the Boeing Chinook, Bombardier BD-700 Global Express, DeHavilland Dash-8-300 USAirway Express & BA CitiExpress, and the Rotorway Int'l chopper series.  Whew!

These were downloaded from Simviation?   All of those cannot possibly be faulty downloads.  I know this may sound like a silly question, idiotic, even, but are you sure that you are installing them correctly?  Does the add-on have all the folders (model, pannel, sound and texture) and the two files (aircraft and XXXXX.air)?

Oddly enough, they all came from the free side of the site, yes. They all fly just fine, and all have thumbnails,...so not really sure what the deal is. Some of the other planes I've downloaded from here display in the "rotating window" just fine...

Oh well,....they fly. That's the main thing

They do not display in the rotating preview, but they appear in the sim during "real-time" flight, correct?

Do you, by chance have SP-2 or Acceleration installed?

I've only had time to check the BD-700 Global Express, and only found a "singlton" Rotoway heli, not a "series" for FSX, haven't dl'ed it yet though.

Actually, no. I'm running FSX "right out of the box" (no Sp 1, 2 or Accel).

The Rotorway downloads in a zipped file called FSX Rotorway and includes 2 models and several paint schemes. The developer is a  Donald R. Elliott don@munchbros.com
or you can reach us at our website munchbros.com

Installed the BD 700, worked fine, no problems.  I haven't had a chance to check out anything else because a (ahem) friend was hogging the computer all evening, and I've only been able to reclaim it a short time ago.   Some peoples!   Angry

I'll try some of the others tomorrow.

(Added) Already have the Chinook, it works too.

Hmmm,....interesting. OK then it's gotta be somethig about my display settings. I just got a "near-top-of-the-line" Dell XPS Gaming Rigs (720), which has super-duper "everything" (memory, graphics, etc. All built specifically for hi-end gaming-NVidia GForce 8800 GT.0)).

I'm running FSX (with display settings) 1600x900x32, Ansiotropic filtering, anti-aliasing is not checked, and global texture is set to very high.

I've heard (read) some banter about the pros and cons of DX9 vs DX10.  I don't have a cideo card, so I don't know too much about that.  Maybe someone who knows more will pick up on this thread, since I'm pretty much at a loss at this point.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.
