ok from what I think understand about electronics, they consume less energy in cooler conditions.. so if you added a fan or 2, it would cool it more, thus, more effiecient. But with the extra fans its breaking even maybe with energy gains vs losses through the fans?

because basicly im on a tight line for the psu I have.. lol Ive upgraded everything. .but forgot about that.

lately ive been pulling useless crap outta the pc like no tommorow..

dissconnected floppy power & took the ribbon out..
Took a dialup card out
disabled the intrigrated LAN chip
Disabled spdif output
disabled the floppy controller
etc
etc

things are getting better but when under high cpu or graphics load it still needs more juice
lol n I cant get another psu for a lil while anyway

how safe would it be to wire a second PSU to the computer? for hdd's, dvd drive, n fans?

let the 450 watt power the motherboard n cpu?

I dont kno..
does anybody Wink Cheesy
lol thanks guys your input's appreaishated!

I have a 350W psu and it handles this:

Q6600
2 or 3 casefans
8600 GTS (1 pci-e power connector, 6 pins)
1 HDD, 3.5 inch
Wireless adapter

I don't see why you would need a 2nd PSU, and even so, I doubt your case could handle it (if it's a stock case)

lol well i connected that other power supply :p crossed over the green and black wires to force it to power

the 300 watt supply feeds the hdds, and fans, while the 450w powers the motherboard, gpu, cpu, and dvdrom drive..

the 2 supplys are grounded together, and ive not had any issues with it yet (been stress testing the last 6 hrs)

with the extra power I was able to OC cpu as well.. lol its up from 2.8 to 3.1 ghz..and can still raise it quite a bit.. temps @ high load is only 58 degrees C.  lol its pretty suprizing.. before I tried to oc it, and couldnt take it up not even a mhz without troubles  Roll Eyes

now gonna start workin on the GPU  Grin

hope i dont spill nuthin on it  Roll Eyes lol if its gonna be anythin like the keyboard its not gonna last too long lol

Dunno what you want to do with it... but if you want real OC success WHITOUT putting the clock up, get a vapochill and go to -40C or something, makes the electrons flow faster in the processor

And if you tilt the computer case the electrons will travel downhill too, thus increasing performance.

I got mine tilted 45deg but my aircraft are always flying crooked..  Grin

What i said is NOT a joke... remember that AMD Athlon 1st gen (slot mount) that got to 1Ghz overclocked (stock speed 700Mhz). Only way that they could do that was by freezing the thing to -40C. Increased conductivity of the processor material due to the low temperature made the thing run stable at that speed

All things being equal.. the "speed" at which electricty flows, is a constant, kinda like the speed of light. I supppose that the time it takes for electrons to "billiard-ball" their way down a conductor (or semi conductor), could be changed (ever so slightly) by temperature extremes,,, But this would have no effect on computer performance (as in speed), without speeding up the clock (or multiplier).

The CPU speed, is the;  step-by-step ... one-two-three  of the computer doing its thing.

Super-cooling will give you more room to work with (while over-clocking), and will even make the whole thing more efficient (as in the amount of power needed).. but it won't increase the computer's performance, all by itself.

ok thanks Smiley that was the answer I was looking for Smiley .. lol read a big article covering how electricity and heat affect each other, and thats basicly what was said   Roll Eyes

wish they summed it up that easy tho.. woulda been easier  Roll Eyes

Ok one other question: Is it possible to run 2 or more power supply units in a parrelell setup, like one would do with batteries? (not increasing voltage, Just increasing amperage?)

deffinatly dont wanna increase voltage lol that could be bad..  Wink

but can I just connect all the wires from both supplies together, then plug it into the motherboard? or would it be more complex then that?

Lol im way too poor, and stubborn to purchace a new 700w PSU when thers unused ones just laying around the house to tinker with  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  Grin
Thanks guys!
