how do i find out which DirectX is installed?

Click the Start button, then choose Run. In the box type dxdiag and press OK or Enter on your keyboard. A new Window will appear and your version of DirectX will be listed at the bottom of the list....commoner Wink

so again, i re-installed flight simulator, this time deleting the files that remained and removed them from the recycle bin.....problem is still there, my flight simulator is useless now with this nuisance! im out of solutions! the thing is, everything was fine a few days ago! i changed nothing in my computer, apart from a system restore for a purpose other than FS, and i have done that before without any problems!

Unfortunately, the problem is as simple as lack of GPU power.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned already?  Huh

It happened to me also on my old computer, one day, everything was fine, the next, if I ran anything that required more resources I would start getting un-textured models etc. Trying to run the POSKY 747 was a no-no, cycling through the views would eventually make all the textures show up, but not without having an effect on the graphics of everything else (ground would go REALLY blurry, buildings loose textures etc.)

Only thing I can suggest, is upgrade your computer, or stay away from higher-demand models/textures such as iFDG and POSKY. Some DTX32 format textures may work for you, as they are smaller in file size.

All the best,
Alex

I briefly touched on the subject of graphics intensive models in my last reply. Nobody picked up on it. Perhaps I was a tad too cryptic.

You could be right but what I don't understand is why this would suddenly start happening. I don't think continually reinstalling FS solves anything. Deleting fs9.cfg would probably be a better idea.

PS. You could try something like FSAutostart to free up resources before using FS9.

My PCs are at the lower end of what's available these days, and tend to get load lag when using something like Posky's default 32-bit textures. To help out, I routinely convert the 32-bit to DXT3 using DXPBmp when I download them. This lightens the load on the processor and loads the textures in a flash. On my system, I can't see the difference between 32-bit and DXT3 textures and it's far preferable to lag - or even not loading textures at all.

Give it a try.

Apolgies Hagar, must have missed that part!

FSAutoStart is probably a very good idea also, I sometimes use a more in-depth method of closing of services. This is what I do:
PLEASE REMEMBER: This works on my system, by no means am I suggesting that this won't cause anything unforeseen on your computer. If you choose to go ahead with this, I can't be held responsible for anything untoward that happens, do so at your own risk

Click Start>Run> Type 'msconfig'

Click 'selective startup'> Uncheck Process 'SYSTEM.INI' file and 'WIN.INI' and also 'Startup Items'. Leave a bullet in 'Use BOOT.INI' and Startup System services.

Click on the services tab, check the 'Hide all Microsoft Services' Box, then click 'Disable all'. Now this is where you have to make a judgement on which services you need. I personally go through and re-enable all ATI services, my Wireless mouse software and my Saitek software.

Then click apply, and restart(remember to disconnect internet if your disabling your anti-virus).

Now, as I've said before, this is only what I do, and it's worked for me with no bad effects for over 100 repetitions of this procedure (including afterwards going back into msconig and checking 'normal startup')

Only a suggestion, I'm a little bit hesitant even posting this, but I think it could help you alot.

Now this is the part when someone intelligent comes along and says DO NOT do this because it's totally irresponsible and will destroy your system! (Cue NickN  Tongue Grin  Wink)

Once again, don't say I didn't warn you  Wink

Happy Simming,

Alex
