If you just want to quote a small part, you can use the "quote" button and then just delete the text you want to omit.  If you just want to do a quick quote, just type [*quote*] text [*/quote*], and leave out the asterics, which woud give you

I regularly do this on other forums where the combination of posts would fill up a page...

When you quote someone's post (Quote button just above their post) then it shows at the top of the message... like this:

Then delete whatever text you dont want, to leave this:
