Restoring .reg files? (Read 398 times)

Afternoon all  Wink

Just recently I've been having a problem restoring .reg files produced as a back-up by CCleaner. At first, I thought it could be just the files produced by CCleaner specifically that may be doing it, but further investigation reveals it's all .reg files.

All that happens, is that when I double click, to open the file (and normally restore it) it comes up with the "Which programme would you like to open this file with" dialouge. Which isn't too helpful. Does anyone have any ideas how to get Windows to return to dealing with them properly, rather than an unknown file type. (I've already checked file associations in my computer, and .reg files aren't associated with any programme either)

Cheers,
Alex

Fisrt, before going any farther, know that I have never done anything with any .reg files.

However, if the .reg file you're talking about USED to be associated with CCleaner, then I may be able to tell you how to restore the association.

Again, this may or may not work. Continue at your own risk.

Go to start menu, control panel, folder options and click on the "file types" tab.   Scroll through the list and try to find the .reg file extension

Is it there?

Is regedit.exe in the list?  That's the default program.

That would be the one, simple, but the thing didn't even cross my mind.

All sorted now.

Cheers Jim,
