Anyone have any insider information as to when Real Environment Xtreme for FSX is going to be released? I'm getting tired of waiting. There is no recent news on their website. I wonder whats holding it up. The original release date was back in April.

This add-on has been in development for ages.

My opinion is: they have been dragging this for too long.

I decided to no longer watch their posts and updates till I heard the add-on is released. In other words, no support.

I will buy it IF it comes out, but I won't entertain them anymore with "ooo-ahh" everytime they post a screenie that looks pretty much the same as a screenie posted when they just started working on it.

I guess people will get fed up with waiting and slowly leave and/or buy other similar products that enhance their sim experience.

Just my 2 cents  Wink

I fail to see what's wrong with that. People will complain if there's not enough detail, people complain if they add the detail, but it takes longer to develop. Developers can't win, in that respect.

Tweek I know that he's putting in detail, but what I failed to say was that he has tried to do too much. He's doing cloud textures, airport taxiway, runway and tarmac textures, UTX style lights, and aircraft lights plus a weather engine.
I don't mind that it's taking long, because I know that the longer it takes the better it will be. REX WILL be one of the best add-ons for FSX for a long while. But most people are starting to lose faith in Tim. It's been over 6 months since he announced REX.

I've been following REX since October 17th or whenever I first saw the thread. I naively thought it would be out by Christmas  Grin

I agree with the 'trying to do too much'. Like Aerosimulations with their FEX update (free to users so I can't complain I suppose) which has also been dragging on forever though losing in the hype wars with REX. There are only 2 people or so doing most of the development work in both cases, as far as I can see, and they are simply trying to do too much.

These days it seems to me that they both may actually be waiting for 'the other guys' to release first so they can do another couple of weeks work, add a couple of features not present in the other package and bring out an even better product and pwn the other one, taking more customers. Of course they'll diss the other package when it comes out and say... 'You think that's good, save your pennies for just a couple more weeks and see what ours is like'.

It's driving me absolutely mad waiting for this...if they would only just release a 'demo' or sample texture pack or something  Shocked

Or let me beta test  Grin

I really envy Active Sky X Graphics users - they've been enjoying a full graphics/weather/airport texture package more or less since FSX came out, I think.

Personal opinion!  Smiley

And I'm enjoying FEX with no burning desire for REX to be released immediately! I'll certainly get REX when it's released, but instead of looking at all the previews and getting myself worked up about it, I'll just enjoy what I have for now.

Glad to see all the input on this topic. I'm almost ready to give up and buy FEX, but I know with my luck just as soon as I do they will release REX.  Undecided  That's a fair chunk of  bread down the drain. Guess I'll wait a little longer. I hope they read this thread.

Money don't grow on my back and I have been holding of buying something like FEX or active sky X purely because I was looking forward to REX.

But things on their progress forums looks dark and dying out.

I decided to buy Active Sky X from HIFI, infact the bundle package the end of next month.

It will be sad if they release REX after that, since I wont buy it. I'll then have to stick with what I've got.

to be quite honest, with FEX producing high quality clouds as well you may as well get FEX but if u want ground textures as well (welol runway etc) theh  hold out, the problem is tim started showing screenshots way to soon, and now people are just getting restless of the waiting.
