pretty good. the waves are a bit exaggerated IMO but all around looks great.

now for the juicy stuff..... Ok to open the file just drag the OceanHeightField file to the DXTBmp icon and it will open right up. on the right hand side towards the middle of the window you will see two check boxes. one says "include when saving" make sure that one is checked uncheck the other one if it is checked. now go to "File>Save As>Extended Bitmap" then a box will come up and click the drop down box and select "Extended 32 bit 888-8" click save. your sim should now work with out any problems Smiley

Okay, slow down a sec.  You lost me right after "Now for the juicy stuff.."  By "just drag" do you mean on the desktop, open windows explorer, locate the file in the texture folder, then drag it from  windows explorer and "drop" it on the DXTBmp shortcut?

If so, okay, DXTBmp opened, but I do not see any image or check boxes. Huh

If I go to the DXTBmp "File", an use "Open Normal Image", the name of the file (Oceanheightfield 512 x 512 normal Bitmap ) shows at the bottom left, but I see no image or boxes to be checked or unchecked.

ok so what you need to do is install everything in the FS9 root folder like you would if things worked right like they should. (but in this case they don't Roll Eyes )

then locate the OceanHieghtField.bmp file.

Make sure that windows explorer is small enough so that you can see the DXTBmp icon on the desktop.

once you have located the file, simply drag the file as if you were dragging something to the recycle bin (place the cursor over the icon and release the left mouse button.) DXTBmp should open up.

Yup, that part did work except for..

Quote:
one DXTBmp is open you should see a black and white picture that has a bunch of squiggles on it. on the right side(sorry about the mix up in the original post.) of the screen below where the alpha is shown there are two check boxes, one says "include when saving" and the other says "use 16 bit dither" make sure that the "include when saving" is checked and "use 16 bit dither" is not.

...all of the above.  No bmp opened.  More than likely, I'm missing something.  I'll have to poke around a bit.  During the install of DXTBmp, there was some file that was mentioned, but the auther seemed to say that if I didn't have it, DXTBmp would not open at all, so I need to check that, since DXTBmp does open, it just doesn't seem to be doing anything. Tongue

Quote:
Now go to File>Save As>Extended Bitmap. A window should pop up and it should be in the FS9/Texture folder where the original file is located. if it is not go to the texture directory.

in the bottom box there is a list of file formats you can save as. (DXT1, DXT2, DXT3, DXT5 etc.) Save the file as a "Extended 32 bit 888-8" a box will then appear asking if you would like to replace the original file and say YES.

Now start the sim and see if it works.

if you keep the EI folder for future installation copy the file that we just changed to the EI texture folder and your future installations should go with out a hitch.

Happy Flying!

Hopefully!   Grin

Somehow I managed to get something mixed up with the original and the indigo, and just finished uninstalling FS9 and reinstalling. :p

Odd thing is, I made a backup of the guage, effects and aircraft files, put them in a nice safe place, did the uninstall, reinstalled FS(, started it, just to make sure it was working, and lo and behold, all my add-on ac are already available on te startup.  I haven't placed them back in the ac folder. (or the effects  or guages, either)

Vista is weird.

Oh well.  I think I'll wait with EI until after an upgrade or two. Tongue

Thanks for trying to help out!

Only 4 B777's to choose from.

MelJet, Overland, PSS or Posky (have seen the previews they posted).
