Pfft, Kenny Brack had a much worse accident at 225mph and hes still alive and kicking (although, not driving).  I could name plenty of other close calls like Ryan Briscoe, or Kathrine Legge, which both of them sustained minor injuries. Wink

Of course its hard to not be safe inside an alluminum can with your head, neck, and body bolted to the seat.

NASCAR is kaput! Angry  Sick of hearing about this crash

Thank soft walls for much of that, which I will point out NASCAR was the last series to implement over here.  Roll Eyes I've seen worse crashes back when they were running 210mph at Talledega.

And another thing that pisses me off about NASCRAP:

They claim to be responsible for the exceptional safety in motor racing today, but in reality, CART has them beat by a decade.  The SAFER barriers were first installed at IMS.  The HANS device was created in the '80s and first implimented in CART.  Not to mention, F1 and CART were the first to design cars that dissipate energy in wrecks, while at the same time stock cars were as stiff as a bone.

Maybe if NASCAR had a better safety sense, then all the fans would not be honoring a dead hero, but rather watching him race on track.

I'm angry!  The next freakin' car with a NASCAR number on it is getting the bird. Angry Angry Angry

I take it you and NASCAR dont really get on!

It must have been good when the dukes of hazard got the general lee souped up by advancing the timing with fishing line and bobbings and nearly won the daytona 500?

I think i read about that in a book Grin

Must admit, i followed Nigel Mansell over to the PPG indycar series and throughly enjoyed it and continued to watch it once he quit, but NASCAR leaves me a little cold when i do come across it over here. Much like our BTCC when they switched to 'boy racer' hot hatches and everyone had a vauxhall astra. Very dull Sad

Yup NASCAR sucks.  When I first started watching auto racing in 2001, I was a NASCAR fan, but then it got boring when I started watching ALMS, F1, CART, IRL or anything else that is not NECKCAR

Gee, I thought I was the only one that felt that way.

Im just going to ignore those rude comments tearing into NASCAR which are off topic and have nothing to do with the crash.
And the thread never said anything about the car being compared to a Cart car, F1 or anything, just to the old style NASCARs.
It is miles ahead of the 'old car', except in handling where drivers say it tends to be tighter and floats a lot.  Even as little as ten years ago no driver in NASCAR would likely to get out and walk away.

The post is about NASCAR safety.

There is no such thing as offending an organization, because it is an entity not a person, so I will say what I please about NASCAR racing.

the new car floats because it is lighter, and resembles an aircraft wing.

Remember though, Nascar fans arn't used to real wings yet so understanding their use and workings will take time Wink
I cant see why fans wouldn't like the car, that wing on the backs saved many a big name driver from a race ending wreck.

Yeah, when it first came out the first thing I thought was how the new wing would reduce lift when the car spins around backwards.  The "wedge" the old cars use would created some spectacular aerial displays.

That was so long ago, you could buy nearly the same car that was on track at a dealership.  Not quite as relavent
