Help! I have gottena 3 way veiw into Gmax but then it tells me
"this background will take xxxmb. amount of space" something alon the lines of that. Then is ends the program when I click yes. HELP! Sad

Never use the view ports as backdrops for your three-view backgrounds. It is best to apply the three-view backgrounds to three separate plane objects and then scale them to the proper size. That should do it.

If you would rather follow the FS SDK setup, make sure you convert the file to the correct format (BMP or JPEG; I can't remember) and then resize it to something smaller than 1024 x 1024.  Otherwise, you run into memory issues like you did earlier.

I've always found that the method mentioned by Kat doesn't allow me to model as I've always done.  This is mainly due to the method I learned for modeling, but the way the tutorial proscribes means you cannot view both your background and the wireframe model at the same time.  I've found this to be inhibiting when working on individual polys or vertices.

By placing the bitmaps in the Opacity slot, rather than the Diffuse Color slot, I am able to produce a 'colored wireframe view" of the drawings. This I've found makes modeling much, much easier:
