today i have come to the conclusion that i need more harddrive space. my harddrive is 80 gigs with only 12 left to spare, my FSX file is worth 25 gigs with all the add-ons.  I dont have the money right now to go out and buy the 300-500 gig like i want but i do have the money to go get FS9 and uninstall FSX for the time being until i get a larger HD, plus i would get faster framerates with FS9 more than likely. My system info is in my sig. So what would you do if you was in my shoes?  Undecided

Can´t go back. I have both installed on my HD, and honestly, I fire up FS9 every time I download something that works in both 9 and X. Just to see the difference. But I spend 2-3% in 9. The rest goes into flying FSX. It´s huge in comparison.

Try to look for a 200 GB HD instead. It will help the performance as the amount of space on your current HD is too small.

I think you will be happier in the long run - and in the short run too.

Just an opinion.

   I have a 300 G hard drive and FSX's performance is barely satisfactory.

Eh.. Didn´t mean that the bigger the HD the better. Just that 12 gb of HD left is not much. a bigger one will keep the system breating. And a 200 GB HD is not that expensive.... compared to a 500 GB one. Smiley

You are aware that FSX will let you put addon scenery and aircraft on
drives other than the one FSX is installed on, aren't you?

For addon scenery, you cam put it anywhere and when you "activate"
it via the "add area" in the Scenery Library window you just point
FSX to the location.

As for addon aircraft and AI aircraft, I created directories on a different
hard drive and made these additions to the fsx.CFG file in the "MAIN"
section:

SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.6=D:\FSX AI Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.7=D:\FSX Military AI

The "Aircraft" folder happens to be in the main FSX folder but it
could be located anywhere as long as the path is included.

My 2 cents, If your system is older and you cant get good fps you wont enjoy it and a new hard drive will not help FSX.  Buy FS-9 to satisfy your flying needs, and save your money for a new system.  I recently(christmans present) built a new system just for FSX.

ASUS m2n32 SLI deluxe MB
XFX geforce 8800 gtx nvidia Graphis with 768 mb gddr-3
AMD 64x2 CPU at 3.2 Ghz
2 500 GB sata hard drives at 7200 rpm raid 0 config
saitek x 52 joystick and throttle
4 GB GDDR-2 memory
750 watt SLI power supply
Microsoft Vista 64 bit Ultimate
Samsung wide screen monitor with a 2 Usec response time

The system kicks butt but i still cant max out FSX graphics,  With high settings and fair weather i can run 35 FPS most of the time, around LAX and some of the other large cities it will drop to 24 FPS, thats respectable i think.  IT remains almost jitter free throughout the game.
If you do not have the money to put together a system like this one or better i think FSX will dissapoint you in performance.  When i run FS-9 I get 90 FPS all the time.
Save for the big system!!!  $3,000 minimum
My Opinion
