Internet Explorer is not working! (Read 454 times)

I have the problem on my computer, fortunately this is a different computer, but on my desktop upstairs internet explorer is simply refusing to start.

I double click on it and i get the pointer with an hour glass next to it, the usual waiting one, then after 2 seconds it goes and nothing happens... ever...

if i right click and press "open home page" the same thing happens...

I can use the start menu to open it but once again the same thing happens.

I even resorted to going into "my documents" then typing the web address into the address bar at the top there which actually works, until i try browsing where after maybe one link or sometimes two.. just to push the boat out a bit, it freezes.... Embarrassed

Does anyone know what my problem may be? and even better does anyone know how i could resolve this problem?

Cheers

No idea what's causing your problem but fixing it is easy enough. Install Firefox. http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/

Ah, I understand your problem. See if this helps. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q318378

It could be caused by spyware. You could try running SpyBot if you have it.

My sister had this very problem on her system just yesterday. I fixed it by: doing a disk cleanup, deleting cookies temp files etc., then I checked her firewall settings. Turns out that she was unknowingly using two firewalls at one time (one that came with PC-Cillin, and the one from Windows itself). I don't know if that was the issue, but I turned one off, then restarted the machine, and all was good again on the restart.
