I've just had to reinstall XP (including SP2) and re-install Firefox (v 2.0.0.11) and since putting it back in every so often when I'm using Firefox the system just reboots whilst I'm using it! I can't figure out why. Anyone got any ideas. It isn't a hardware problem as it doesn't happen in any other programs...
The Mozilla forum seems to be obsessed with hardware problems causing it but as an ex-hardware engineer I know that it isn't that. I left the machine up all night checking the HDs etc and nowt is wrong with them...

Use IE Roll Eyes

I'd try an older version first, might be some bugs in the new one.

A list of older firefox versions and download links can be found here:

Thanks for the link. It possibly was my ATI drivers apparently. I've since uninstalled 'em and put the newest ones on and got some XP file problems that I've fixed. Hopefully all will be well now but I'm downloading V2.0 just in case Wink Grin
The weird thing is when it keels over literally it is like someone flicked off the power switch and I can't get any error messages and the like (and yup I've configured the machine not to auto-reboot). Lets hope the last few hours of work solve the problem.........
CPU temperature is fine, everything seems to be working normally, checked all cables and connections, cleaned the interior of the machine etc etc. This is a REALLY weird one!

Fozzer, if you would like you can get your bookmarks back, i forgot what caused this problem, but FF makes backups from your bookmarks, so it should be somewhere in your FF directory, i believe somewhere in the profiles, you can rename a older file and then you should have em all back!

Well how is this for weird. I had an attack of twiddling this morning and found some nView stuff that hadn't disappeared from the system when I changed graphics cards (so much for nVidia uninstall Roll Eyes) So plenty of deleting of files and manually editing the registry later and now 2.0.0.11 works absolutely fine and glitch free..... weird!
