I've just received a polite email from a siommer who has downloaded my FarmStrips from Simviation and found the third volume contained no farms.
Can I just point out that Simviation had never had the courtesy to ask whether they might offer my scenery files for download on this site. Having obtained them, presumably from another download site, they have clearly not checked their uploads were satisfactory.
If anyone has a problem with one of these dodgy downloads, then please complain to the site administrators and not to me, since I have no responsibillity for the quality of files they are making available without my consent.
In view of this please note that any future downloads will not have been offered with my cooperation.

Gerry,

I cannot verify uploads. If something is uploaded I naturally presume it's legit. Occasionally & rarely I hear of a great files through our screeshots of other forum & will contact the author for permission to host. Otherwise all uploads are uploaded directly to us by people - We get uploads almost every day that we already have so a lot of people seem to enjoy uploading ....  Roll Eyes

I will now search out & remove the file as we do not knowingly host problem files at simviation.

I can only presume you are new to this game as you accuse this site with so little knowledge of the likelihood of your files being distributed - which is what generally happens.

In my own  releases (helicopters for FS2000/2002) I only released here yet they were all over the sites within days.

I will try to remember your name & if there are further files with your name included they will not be posted.

Edit: File removed. One less problem at Simviation. Wink

In SimV's defense, I've uploaded an effects package to three of the biggest FS sites on the web Inluding SimV, and it's turned up on many others without my permission. The problem seems to stem from FS fans that take it upon themselves to ignore info in the readme files, and redistibute our add-ons on their own.  Angry

NO-ONE at Simviation would delibrately take your add-on from another site just to have it on this one, as this is a practice that Simviation strives so hard against.

I find your response entirely unacceptable. In the first instance you have made no mention of the ethics of offering for download files which you do not have the designer's agreement to  so offer. Since we are clearly not on the same wavelength here, and to avoid any ambiguity, I would ask you to remove from your site not only the "Dodgy" volume 3 but any other files that I have designed.

As to being a newcomer to simming, are the following credentials sufficient; I've been simming since before the invention of the Internet as we now know it. From the sites that offer my work, excepting your own, downloads of my sceneries exceed 40,000.

The ethics are not supposed to be written by SimV, they are to be written by you, and placed in the Readme. The point we are trying to make here is: there are people here who tend to ignore ethics. FSFrance.com is a perfect victim example.

You have to tell the world that you don't want this download uploaded to site X, but you seem surprised that someone will ignore those words. The fault of this matter is not on SimV, it is on the person who uploaded the file. As Pete said, he does very little of the uploading here, it is the community that fills our libraries.

You say Pete's response was unacceptable, fine by me, but don't you think you're being a little unreasonable?

Unreasonable? No. Amazed that it can be wrong to object to this sort of practice. Remember that several designers of aircraft and scenery of a standard I could never personally achieve have already stopped designing for reasons similar to my own.
No replies worthwhile, since I've put across my view and left the site.

Whenever a developer had mentioned an issue like this either Pete or one of the Admins has immediately removed the offending file! Unlike certain other sites I could mention who've published my work (and that of many other people I have dealings with) without permission and never acknowledged a PM or email.
If you tell us the file names I'm sure Pete or one of us Admins can remove them for your forthwith. We at SimV truly appreciate the efforts and works that designers such as yourself put in (a number of us being designers ourselves) Wink

wheeew ... the guy is gone ...

He just couldn't seem to get it. We did nothing wrong. He couldn't get that into his head.

Upon complaint file removed. Still whining on .....  Roll Eyes

I think I could guess which forum you could find is HIS home FS forum ..... Wink  Grin

Luckily this 'back-end-up' attitude simply doesn't exist here at Simviation ... & whenever it arises the culprit is always shown the door in as quietly a way as possible .. (ideally)  Wink

OK ... now back to having fun & enjoying this great hobby  ..  Smiley

Quite. He was obviously far too important than to think this could have been a genuine mistake...

Probably has never encountered a site that is on "the designer's side".
He was ready to accuse us of intentionally uploading files without his permission.

Pete explained our policy and that we would be happy to remove it.
He acted like pete didnt even read his response.
He probably copied and pasted it from the last sight he asked it to be removed.

Sad for him as he directed his frustration at this site and this site is known for it's anti-piracy rules, its support for all the freeware designers and how we communicate with requests for things to be removed that have not had permission to be uploaded here.

He just left one of the only sites that actually is on his side!
Oh well!

Has he been banned and/or deleted?

Thats hardly fair, all he did was say please remove my files they do not have permission to be hosted on this site, and it seems everyone jumps on his back. Ok he could have emailed the webmaster directly and cut out this ugly middle man, but it still seems harsh how everyone jumped on him like that.

I have uploaded a few repaints to AVSIM but i have not found them on any other sites (yet) however if i did i would hope to be treated a bit more respectfully that gwinsk. Then again i would probably just email the webmaster instead of makeing a public statement about the matter.

Kermit, this is the way to tell pete, the webmaster about it. It is proof to all on this site how we handle things like this. Everybody can read it clear as day that Simviation supports all the freeware designers who make this hobby what it is. It always ends up in an explanation, the problem is dealt with and the files fixed with all parties happy in the end. Gwinsk probably thought we were another FSplanet or something.

Nobody 'jumped' on his back, he asked for the files to be removed & 7 minutes later Pete had replied to the problem & had the files removed as requested. Seven minutes, on most sites you'd be lucky if that was done within a week, if at all.

Good job Pete, but I guess you can't please everybody.
