Im sure this has been discussed at length... but based on what i have seen with the FSX Acceleration expansion pack... those mustangs are looking mighty good!

What do you think about the possibility of CFS4?

So many players seem to want different things from CFS4.

I was thinking something like this.

Offer a campaign from each of the following

WW1, WW2, Korean war, Vietnam, and modern warfare featuring dozens of different controllable aircraft from each era.

the main menu interface would be like a museum... similar to Janes ww2 fighters, only each wing of the museum is a different era of air combat. You can go to the ww2 wing to play free flight, single missions, or campaign mode from 1939 - 1945... or you can go to the Korean war era wing to play missions for that era etc,

The global scenery would vary slightly from year to year, but you could pretty much use the scenery from FSX... the only major change would be the deletion and addition of certain scenery files, and the era specific campaign layers.

Discuss.  Grin

Cfs4 had already been in development, but for some unknown reason they pulled the plug while it was in its alpha stages Cry

It would be awesome to see CFS4 be a modern day fighter...Perhaps it could use the FSX Engine...Would make it awesome  Shocked

Mmm, the FSX engine (with a few modifications, so as to make it combat worthy) would be a VERY good platform for a Combat Flight Simulator. Take LOMAC for an example, you can hardly modify it. Stick an anthology of air wars (from WWII to present day perhaps) in said concept CFS, with the ability to add new aircraft and scenery, and it already rivals Janes USAF and LOMAC.

Some concept missions that could be done with a combination between CFS and FSX..

C-5 Galaxy carrying a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), needs to flyover the drop off point and release it, while evading enemy fighters.

A TwinHuey flight of five needs to sneak into a town in Baghdad to pick up/load off a special ops team..

While attacking a tank column in an A-10 flight of two, your wingman gets shot down, and ejects, and to get a Deserthawk/Pave Hawk flight in to rescue him, you need to use Pave Penny to designate the area in which he landed.

Operation Enduring Freedom, the area is swarming with Fishbeds and Floggers, you are flying a KC-10, with several F-111s inbound for a drink. Possible side mission? They don't pay for gas, you find a way to take out those Aardvarks. Wink

Operation Market Garden, in a C-47, you must evade flak and fly over the drop area to get those soldiers in.

June 6th 1945, fly a Halifax/Wellington/Skytrain and tow a Horsa/Waco in.

Vietnam, hunter killer with an OH-6 and an AH-1G.

Betty Bomber releasing a Cherry Blossom?

AC-130 overflight in cooperation with an AH-64A. AH-64A to pave way for AC-130.

Lots of possibilities with CFS and FS together!  Smiley

We're already seeing TerraBuilder: Moon coming out that can modify the entire planet to make it simulate the moon [terrain, gravity, atmosphere, etc.] with an earth picture in the sky. Currently, this addon is made soley for FS2004. On top of that, I think Lionheart Creations Ltd. is still trying to get permission from Microsoft to get enough of the source code in order to modify the earth to simulate Mars. If things like this are possible, and with FSX now featuring support for weapons, missions, and pole-to-pole flights for the first time, it won't be long before some group of developers come up with enough resources and skills to do what me, Ritter and An-225 believe.

Speaking of WW2, that era is quite interesting to me. In fact, it's the one era where the first ICBMs [V-1 Rockets] were launched by the Germans. And those rockets were capable of ALMOST touching space. There was also another German project that proposed the use of a manned rocket plane that is capable of reaching the United States via sub-orbital space travel [skimming across the top of the atmosphere] and drop a massive bomb over New York; however, the project never made it passed the drawing board due to the fact that the Germans were losing the war. Anyways, with FSX now supporting orbital flight and with a combat sim addon that can present a wide range of possibilities, I hope to God that someone manages to make such an addon.

You mean the V2. The V1 was the first cruise missile powered by a pulse jet engine. Neither had an accurate guidance system & it was a matter of luck if they hit the target.

I don't think there will be a CFS4. They made a bad mistake with CFS3 which killed it. IMHO
I'm convinced it would have been possible to combine FS & CFS with FS2002 if they had wanted. Much of the groundwork was already done. The truth is that the majority of FS enthusiasts would throw up their arms in horror at the very idea. Shocked Tongue

Speaking of the V-1, now that would be something to fly a He-111 with an underslung Fi-103 and release it. Or a sub-orbital test flight using N905NA and OV-100.

personally im gonna avoid any more ms combat flight sims, unless they intend on having a game that can compete to openfalcon or storm of war gfx and realism wise, im gonna stick with those (storm of war of course when it comes out, till then im on il2 1946)
