Project Dreamliner Update (Read 4037 times)

Hello,
I recently started my project called "Project Dreamliner".
I know there are allready one or two 787s out, but I hope to make an aircraft for FS9 and X,
which has a very high quality and much detail. I'm pretty sure I'll release it both pay- AND freeware,
with differences in version and painting variety I think.
Guys who are interested in helping me with airfiling, lighting or texturing are welcome! I would of course strictly seperate the texture ressources from pay and free version. Of course if you want to help me and you'd also do for the commercial version,
we'd need to find a good contract Wink, but I'm open for all tips, critic, and every arguement  Cool Wink.

From time to time I'll show you my work - if you're interested or not! Grin

Now I'll start with a question, I need your help!

Remember, I want to get this to really good quality!
What do you think of the polygon density this fuselage has?

Please tell me if you think it is too low-poly, too high-poly or whatever you believe how it should be.
And note that this fuselage has turned smoothing of for better visibilty while designing and no window and door cut-outs , yet.

...

best,
rev

Hey Rev. Thats a good poly count for such a large tube and it looks fairly good from that perspective. Could we see a non wireframe with some smooth applied you can always take the modifier back out.

(AN ODE TO GMAX)     OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH GMAX! How I sometimes want to hug and kiss it. And other times want to smash, berate, and delete it. Gmax how I love and loathe thee. The crashes the errors the reinstalls. Gmax you are the whomb of my aircraft design. Oh Gmax my designing creating temptress. It must be love for you have taken my heartdrive. By Greg Ebnit  ...

Thanks!

Yes, I will include a VC, but need to find how I can make the gauges clickable in VC view.

Of course, I'll show you a smoothed picture in about an hour; I'm busy now.
I also just set it to non-smoothe because of I can better see which polies are wrong.

Well, the view you requested Wink

Edit:

I just overworked the fuselage! here the new file:

I just saw I need to overwork the width of many segments, the top view backdrop wasn't scaled correctly.....  Sad Undecided
Thanks to god I scaled the other two ones exactly right!  Grin

No, definitly not!????  Shocked Shocked
I am modelling a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that had it's roll-out on 7.8.2007,
not on the A380 that was delivered to Singapore Air at 15.10.2007!  Grin Grin Grin

Hi rev.

I'd be happy to provide the flight dynamics, if that would help. I did the FD for Moach's 737 Experience and have one on the stocks for his new 777 Experience also.

Let me know.

Great, as far as I know, the 787 Flight Dynamics are much like 777's.

Thank you very much, I'll contact you then!

best,
rev

PS: It may take a while I first have to finish FullSplash, and school is hard at the moment.
Earliest would be in Christmas vacations.

I wonder...Are there any shots of the actual 787's cockpit floating about? It would be a shame to see a fake VC...LOL... Grin

Not a problem rev, take your time. I already have a rough first version: test-flying it over Washington state right now!

One question - which variant are you modelling? The -3, -8 and -9 have different specifications. (Not to mention different wings!)

Thanks.
Though the first picture looks like a fake to me (real background, computer-created Cockpit), I think I'll just refer to original Boeing pictures.
And as I have to make the exterior first, Boeing still has some time to upload more pictures of their VC. Wink

Though I can't find the version info of my 787 on my hard drive I believe it was a 787-8.
I'll google for it later.

That's good - by coincidence I decided to make the FD for the -8. It's almost complete - pretty much just needs matching to the model now.

Hey, here are some pics that show a few suggestions that I have (I don't have a 787 for my FS9 yet, and I want a good one =p).
Plus, I know you aren't completely finished, but I want to make sure that if I buy the payware version that I get a fricken sweet one ^^. (Don't forget, I've never made something with G-Max before, so you're always gonna be ahead of me.)

Thank you very much for your efforts!!  Cheesy

I haven't realized this, though the fuse isn't finished yet.

I'll need to check if the 3-view data is correct.
I wonder if they are - they're from Boeing!

best,
rev

PS: I don't think I'll give the free version a lower exterior model,
that'd be too much work to set quality down after having had much work with it.  Undecided

So I'll leave out some VC details, less airline painting shemes, no repaint kit files which I'll include in pay-version
- or something else like that.

Wondering what secrets my 3view files will show up.........  Wink

The model looks fantastic Rev.

But if I'm honest. Going down both the freeware and payware route is wrong (in my opinion).

If you do make a high quality model, and even release it as freeware, even with a few extra perks. I doubt many people would justify making a purchase for something that is only marginally better than the freeware version.

Plus, about releasing the paintkit to only the payware purchasers. Surely you want as many paints as you can get to make your model popular? Letting some of the many talented painters out there do it for you is probably a much better idea that restricting it to only the people who bought it.

If I was you (however, I'm not) I would release the model either as payware or freeware, not both. And also (although it does look good) this is only your first model, so there may be some hiccups along the way, doing a project such as this and releasing it as freeware you will gain a few crucial skills that you could incorporate into your next payware product, that way your payware product would be superior due to your previous experience with your freeware one  Wink

And in all honesty, people will be much more willing to give you help on a freeware project than a payware one  Wink

You're right... I can just agree with you,

I haven't decided about free- or payware, yet, but have got some results with the other problem.

Thank you Alex very much. I scanned some other drawings from FlugRevue and used them as backdrops.
You're right - I need to overwork the nose!
But there's also some other thing with the tail that lets my brain work....

...

As you can see, I always used the boeing's version. (blue lines on top of right drawing is fuselage).
Should I keep refering to the left tail version or the right one?

From the one I saw in Everett, the tail went into the space you mentioned, like those plastic toys, where you insert it and then click it back. But I only saw the exterior, not the interior.

So it was correct to shape the rear fuse half with the left pictures?! good-good...

For the interior there are enough photos or computer-modelled images out everywhere.
And there will come more - the only existing interior things by now are mock-ups, not built-in in a 787 yet.

But the most important news for today: Wink

Project 7-8-7 goes FREEWARE !

Would the interior be like the real 787?
Also, will the 787 interior have effects like tray tables, walking around, etc compatible be with FSX?   Because the Meljet 777 for FSX does not have that feature.

Yeah, I try to make it as realistic as I can and will keep it near to the original looking (but of course - it may happen that Boeing changes its interior design in next months till First Flight, and every airline can have its personal and individual cabin).

I don't exactly know what you mean by tray tables, but if you'd explain, please..... I use to not be thinkng very much this noon....  Cool Undecided

Primarily I am modelling for both FS9 and FSX, though the FS9 will first be one aircraft richer..... Wink
I will model a vc, cabin and what's also needed in it, for FS9 you can walk around if you're a user of Active Camera,
however I don't know how the FSX features of "walking around" are (i don't have it).... will need you to explain me Grin Grin !

Well now, I completely overworked the fuselage in Y-shape, which you can see below.
The vertices should sit perfect now, but if you see something, please tell me.  Wink
Tomorrow I'll then overwork the X-shape (top-view) which also needs some more work.

I added some basepaint to it, know it looks ugly but it helps seeing some special details (i believe so).
Please don't care of the pixel errors, I made this within 2 minutes....  Wink and it was only wrapped as this works the fastest...  Roll Eyes
Of course not the final way to texture it... Cheesy

Looks fantastic! A Cabin is always welcome IMO...You need to have the fun factor as well in FS9...LOL...I think by tray tables he means if they will move when the key is pressed just like the MelJet's... Wink
