Changes in the Aircraft File (Read 241 times)

Hey Folks, I've got a question concerning the aircraft file. I'm one of those people who likes to have everything labeled properly if possible, meaning I like the aircraft manufacturer to be labeled as Boeing, Lockheed, etc... not "John Doe/Software Inc"... I also like to have the type and variations of the aircraft labeled properly. I learned through tinkering, that in the [General] section of the Aircraft File, that if you change the "Category=airplane"  setting to, let's say to  "Category=Military Fighter Jet" that your fighter jet will no longer show up at all in the FSX aircraft listing, so I leave that as is now. My latest bout has been with the Cessna 172 SP Skyhawks. I take all of the quotation marks out, I list the manufacturer as Cessna, I list the type as 172 SP Skyhawk, and I have changed the Variations from there dumb settings such as "  Red ,  Gold", which if you look at the thumbnail, it clearly shows a white w yellow plane, and I label the aircraft variation as such. The other thing I do, is change the  "texture=?" section to reflect the true variation colors of the aircraft such as "texture=White & Yellow" and I also change the name of the actual Texture File to reflect the same (texture. White & Yellow). Now what I am experiencing is, the aircraft thumbnails are showing up with the correct labels as I like them. They also show up as the correct aircraft when I click on it, and, the proper aircraft is shown, but, the doors are sticking out of the bottom of the aircraft vertically, the elevators are sticking out horizontally where the doors should be, and the propeller is missing altogether. This happens with the stock variations along with the add-on variations. Before I go tinkering around with each section one at a time to try to figure this out, I was wondering if someone could just tell me which section of change that I am making that would cause this? Thanx. Semper Fi, Dave

Hi Dave. The selection menu variables are defined in the [fltsim.x] sections against the ui_xxxxx = entries. I suspect you need to edit the ui_typerole= entry. Change the name to "Miltary Fighter Jet"

Any chance of a screenshot of this phenomenon? Unless you've been messing around with the MDL files I suspect it's the textures.

Ahh... roger that on the type role section, that makes perfect sense now.

I definately did not, or never have messed with any of the MDL files.

I'm not too sure of how to get a screenshot, but I will try and figure that out here. I think I'm suppose to press "V" or "CTRL V" and I'll see if I can get it somewhere that I can upload it... It IS quite a sight.

Thanx for the word and I'll work on the screenshot.
