I have been playing with FreeFD recently and it is a very impressive piece of FREE software. I was messing around with the ND and I randomly figured out that you can adjust the range with + and -. I saw in one of JBaymore's threads where he had built a panel to control a whole bunch of functions for the ND. I was just wondering if anyone had a list of all the controls and functions that are available for FreeFD, and specifically for the ND. I have searched all over the place, including on this forum, for a list of controls, but haven't been able to find any information.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

There is a doc file in the download... I think.

FreeFD ND Display key assignments

Keys:

1 – 6      Range settings (10, 20, 40, 80, 160, and 320nm)
a      Airports on display
A      Arc mode
C      TCAS mode
H      Heading / Track mode toggle
i      Show Intersections
I      ILS/APP mode
M      MAP mode
N      Show NDBs
P      PLAN mode
r      Range Ring display on/off
R      Rose mode
S        Frequency info on navaids
v      Show VORs
V      VOR mode
- and +      Decrease/Increase Range

And on ALL of the FreeFD gauges:

9 and 0      Dim/Brighten
8      Set Dimmer to normal
1 and 2      Change the blue background color (hold down)
Q      FPS display on / off
T      Rotate display in 90 degree increments
F      Window frames/title bar on/off
ESC      Saves current configuration to disk and exits
.      Mouse Pointer Toggle      (kills mouse image on instrument)

Hope this helps.

best,

Unfortunately, in my download, there was nothing but the exe files. No sort of documentation at ALL.

But this is a HUGE help. I had no idea there would be THAT much control to it. Thanks a TON!

Here is the panel that is mounted on the glareshield in my simpit that controls the FreeFD ND display (and a few other parts of the sim):

...

It is based loosely on a real panel... but with my own unique "twist" on it, stealing from numerous aircraft...... and custom tailored to both FreeFD and the parts I had available.  Pretty simple to interface it....... a Hagstrom KE72 sends the correct keystrokes depending on which switch is flipped/turned/pressed.

Here's the rest of the FreeFD keyboard commands:

PFD

&      Inc / Dec decision height
I      Imperial versus US type baro pressure
W      Flight Director display type mode

Backup / Standby Gauges

R and C      ADI Raise/Lower
T and V      IAS Display Raise/Lower
Y and B      Altimeter Raise/Lower

Flight Management Computer

F1 to F6      left side lineselect keys #1 to #6

F7 to F12      Right side lineselect keys #1 to #6

Backspace        The CLR key

DEL      DEL key

Page UP andPage Down      PREV PAGE and NEXT PAGE

Left Arrow and Right Arrows      Dim/Brighten display

` (unshifted tilde)      Remove / Display the mouse clickable CDU keypad

~ (tilde)                      Window frames on/off

(The FMC is a very unfinished part of this software suite.)

EICAS

S      Upper/lower eicas display shift
V      Display Modes

(This part of the program seems to not work at very fast framerates for many people.  Also is clearly pretty unfinished)
