Here are the latest of Falcon500s Great Lakes Freighter models that he has sent to me for texturing. Hadnt gotten a chance to take some pics yet for an update.
Both at anchor in the Detroit river.

Very nice. I hope there is deck texturing yet to do, but the base seems absolutely great so far! Well done, Greg!

Thanks Guys. Not sure what Falcon is planning. Also not sure about FSX compatibility as the Ships are exported with FS2002 Makemdl in order to get the lights to work. Falcon should be able to tell us when he comes on this weekend some time.
What do you think the decks are lacking?

Not sure about FSX yet, depends on how things will work out, as for the deck textures, they keep the decks red to hide the iron ore dust, and they also keep them pretty clean, i may add some grime and paint damage to them.
Fresh water you really dont need to be johnny on the spot with paint.

I guess I was looking more towards detail stuff: tie-downs, ropes, maybe a person or two. Stuff like that. Not so much extra junk, but detailed items that would make it seem more "alive" I guess.
But I do think it looks good from a distance, though.

Running on the assumption that you're modeling the Capt Henry Jackman after the William J De Lancey, a few suggestions:
A mottled red would be better than a flat red. It would look more like rust, and give some definition to the areas that are not really distinguished on the boat. Try using some sort of brush texture in whatever texturing program you are using, and use a different layer so that you can edit that particular part of the texture and move it around if you need to.
Looking at
this image
, you can see two yellowish lines running the length of the boat. Adding those would probably bring in some detail.
In that image, there are also some things on the deck (grayish and a few white thingies) which could be added to give more detail.

You cant see from the pictures here but all the ships have hull plate lines on them that run the length of the ship. Its hard to see in the pictures because I use a deep contrast on my computer which tends to make pics darker and the colors richer.
Also as Falcon can tell you Im a bit of a polygon Nazi. Falcon does the modeling and then I go through and remove the polys that arent nessesary while keeping the nice hull shapes in tact. As far as detail sure you could put alot more detail in but that would be at a cost of performance for some peoples PCs. Frames Frames Frames I say.
Edit- I had forgotten. Most of the ships have anchors and anchor wells all have rotating radar masts and of course when exported with FS2002 Makemdl lights. Each model also has smoke effects that only tend to work if you fly to them. They need to load away from the immediate spawn in area.
