From what I've seen of it uMark Lite is a quick & easy way of doing what you wanted. You can add text to images with most graphics editing software including IrfanView.

Steve (61_OTU) makes a valid point. Unless your images are of exceptionally high quality nobody is likely to steal them so ask yourself if all this is really necessary.

The image I posted is a simple example of what the little program I found can do. If you take the trouble to read my earlier replies I could easily move the watermark with a couple of mouse clicks to make it like Ken's & therefore more difficult to remove. Alternatively, I could replace the text with another image which would make it even more difficult, although why anyone would bother to do this is beyond my comprehension. I have recently tried Watermark Master and was strongly impressed with it! Lots of different watermarks, dynamic effects and other sweeties:P It's not free, but you can make use a trial version.
