Canon EOS400D (Rebel XTi)

With;

18-55 kit lens
75-300 f4-5.6 USM MkIII

I obviously use the latter for all aviation photography (unless I'm really close;) ), while I save up for a Bigma (Sigma 50-500) or a 100-400 L series.

It handles like a dream, and is very easy to use, especially to the first time SLR user....the picture quality is outstanding, as is the variability of settings...almost everything can be changed...

One big plus is the automatic sensor cleaner.....I occasionally get a few marks appearing on my pics....all i have to do is press a button and it removes the problem.....it's worked for everything I've needed to get rid of so far Wink

The lens is the most important part of an SLR....and the 75-300mm is a good entry level long telephoto lens...although it does go rather soft the nearer to 300 you get Wink....the USM is fast and quiet, and it just about fits into my camera bag (always a good thing) Smiley

There we go....I reccommend in wholeheartedly Smiley

Same camera here but with the following lenses

(2) 18-55
24-85mm USM
70-300mm USM

And a Tamron 200-500mm lenses

All lenses are autofocus and I have gotten some really good shots with all.

I got the 24-85mm lems when I bought my first 35mm film Rebel.
I got 1 18-55 mm adn the 70-300 when I bought my Canon Digital Rebel 6.1mp
I got the second 18-55mm and the Tamron lens when I bouth the 400D

I couldn't be happier with the quality of shots.

Canon RebelXT w/battery grip, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 50-500mm, and Canon 18-55mm.

I absolutly love this camera!  I've put in over 51,000 shutter actuations to date in climates from 10*F to 125*F, in rain, snow/ice, fog, and direct sunlight.  Been in dry areas, damp areas, and some very dusty/sandy areas, even held it out the window of an airplane a couple of times.  It's all held up without a single hitch.

It's going to be an excellent backup body once I get that Canon 40D.

I glad to hear good things about this camera.  This is the one I have in my sights for now.  Either the XT or the XTi.

It has a 10x optical zoom, although using this on full zoom can be a bit blurry without a stabilising device (a tripod or the like) unless you have a VERY steady hand.

Solved by higher shutter speeds. At 10x, you should be able to get away with going as low as 1/125th before it starts to blur from shake. Much the same as my...

Fujifilm Finepix S5600

Great for a bridge camera, though can't compare to the quality of a DSLR. Edited well, you can come out with some great images - aviation and all.

Not too pricey either... you can pick one up for around £120 nowadays.

I have the same camera Tweek. That is quite correct about the higher shutter speeds and I have mine on that setting for most shots. Not only is the zoom brilliant, but the lens quality is very good. All my recent shots at the museum were taken with this model. I bought a new, full sized tripod for about £18 on ebay that works very nicely and I also use it for filming with the relevant setting on the camera. In my opinion, at the time of purchase when I compared it to what I could afford (9 months ago) it was the best camera out there for £150. Now you can pick them up for about £120 as Tweek says.  I wouldn't know if there was some better camera now for the same price. The only possible disadvantage to it is that it is bulky. For myself I prefer the bigger cameras to the pocket/handbag gadgets that usually aren't as good.

Fair point actually. I'll hopefully have a replacement in the near future. But wanting one and getting one are two different things. If i could get a new 10d I would, better than the 350d/300d/20d/30d etc, but shutter life isn't infinite.
