The "I own this camera"  thread. (Read 1299 times)

What with lots of members wanting new cameras and asking for advice on buying as well, I thought it might be a good idea to post here which camera you own and write a small review of it.
This can be used for reference to anyone who's thinking about buying a new camera.

I own a Fuji s9600 (Known as s9000 in the USA)

An excellent "bridge" camera, not quite a DSLR but more than a compact. It has a 10x optical zoom, although using this on full zoom can be a bit blurry without a stabilising device (a tripod or the like) unless you have a VERY steady hand. The colours are excellent and with 9mp available the settings are advanced enough to set you on the way to taking superb pictures.
I've learnt much more about photography since owning this camera and feel it has given me a good enough grounding to consider a DSLR next time out.
At the time of writing this is available for around £270 sterling... a lot less than I paid for it  Angry  Grin
Thanks for reading,
Rob.

Solved by higher shutter speeds. At 10x, you should be able to get away with going as low as 1/125th before it starts to blur from shake. Much the same as my...

Fujifilm Finepix S5600

Great for a bridge camera, though can't compare to the quality of a DSLR. Edited well, you can come out with some great images - aviation and all.

Not too pricey either... you can pick one up for around £120 nowadays.

Excellent idea Rob!

The Camera: I use a simple 'point & shoot' Samsung NV3.
The Review: It takes purdy pictures of fings I likes.  Smiley

Canon EOS400D (Rebel XTi)

With;

18-55 kit lens
75-300 f4-5.6 USM MkIII

I obviously use the latter for all aviation photography (unless I'm really close;) ), while I save up for a Bigma (Sigma 50-500) or a 100-400 L series.

It handles like a dream, and is very easy to use, especially to the first time SLR user....the picture quality is outstanding, as is the variability of settings...almost everything can be changed...

One big plus is the automatic sensor cleaner.....I occasionally get a few marks appearing on my pics....all i have to do is press a button and it removes the problem.....it's worked for everything I've needed to get rid of so far Wink

The lens is the most important part of an SLR....and the 75-300mm is a good entry level long telephoto lens...although it does go rather soft the nearer to 300 you get Wink....the USM is fast and quiet, and it just about fits into my camera bag (always a good thing) Smiley

There we go....I reccommend in wholeheartedly Smiley

We do Steven, but posting it up..along with a few words about it's pros and cons (are there any?  Grin ) would help others in their decisions about buying new equipment. And getting photos with the quality of yours..  Wink

I've got me trusty Olympus E-10. Technically, it's my father camera, but I've been its sole user for years, and my father's since purchased a new cam (which he uses exclusively) so at the end of the day, we all consider this "my" camera.

...

It's a terrific camera, in my opinion. I don't know how it ranks in terms of aviation photography (as I've never planespotted), but for what I use it for (stop-motion animation more than anything) it works a treat and produces some excellent crispy images. It's probably outdated by now (having been released in 2000), but I couldn't ask for a better cam.

Best part is, as my father was the one who bought it, I ended up getting this £495 (at the time) camera for free. Cool
