I would say that 90% of the aircraft will have a "readme" file, or a file titled "installation" once you have unzipped it. Just read it through and follow the instructions step for step. Some aircraft come with an installer. All you have to do is click on it and it does the rest, though you will have to tell it where your FSX is installed. Download a couple of small files first to get a feel for it. Each author approaches the installation instructions a little differently from the next, but the basic moves are the same for each aircraft.

If you go through the Download section for example here in Simviation.com, you will notice two types of downloads for planes:
- full planes
- repaints, that is textures only for a plane that you downloaded before.

It is a real shame that full planes and repaints are not separated in the download section. However...  Lips Sealed

When you download a full plane, normally there is a Readme file in it, that explains how to install it, like the-ex-pat told above.
If not, I recommend you to read the FAQ, you'll find the explanations on "How to insert an aircraft". Forget that! I'll try to give some simple infos.

Normally, when you download a plane, you get a big ZIP file.
Extract it to a temporary folder. When it's done, you would get a new folder with the name of the plane, and inside this folder the following subfolders:
- model
- panel (and maybe some panel.--- additionnal folders, they are additionnal panels for specific variants of your plane)
- texture (and maybe some more texture.--- additionnal folders, they are additionnal repaints for the variants of your plane)
- sound
- gauge: you need to take all the files in this folder, and move them to the "gauge" folder in the FSX main folder.
- effects: same as above, move those files into the "effects" folder in the FSX main folder.

Then, you just need to take the folder of the plane and move it into the FSX\simobject\aircraft folder, and that's all Smiley
If anything more than that is to be done, it MUST be written in the readme file of that plane.

I think someone's should care about the FAQ, it's pretty incomplete right now, don't you think ?
In any case, sure you can copy-paste my explanations. Forum means sharing informations Smiley
