Simviation Forum - Maybe a good trick for gauge confirmations ?

Hi all,

Before I get into any more details, I would like somebody here to try something:
- could anybody try to install the Hawker Siderley Trident from that page ? -> http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk/
PS: don't forget to download the VC panel, that the more important actually !

I would simply like to know if, the first time you selet this plane, you have to confirm any gauge (those annoying popups). I was just thinking about it and I cannot remember confirming anything for that plane. Could you try and report here please ? My gaming computer is unavailable for me at the moment, so I cannot test myself.

Yup i've got it and it all works... you just need to do a couple of 'Do you want to run this gauge' things and then it wont bother you again.... Wink

Are you sure you got those popups for that particular plane ?
I know it works fine, my question was mainly focused about the popups. It "seems" to me that for tht particular plane, I didn't get any popup! So I would like some other people (who would not have the gauge entries in their fsx.cfg already) to test it out.

Yup. Put it this way... you don't get any of those annoying 'This gauge is not compatible' things popping up all the time. Just one or two 'Do you want to run this gauge'. Just click yes and then click the option to do this every time....

Daube,

You can verify for yourself by looking in the FSX.cfg file.

Find the [Trusted] section. Any gauges (and other stuff) that you have verified in the popup will be listed. For gauges the path and gauge name will be listed. Note: in notepad, turning 'wordwrap' off will make it easier read the entries.

As always, backup any file before viewing/editing.

I would verify but I don't have access to my computer currently, thus the post for asking for feedback from other members Wink

The first time I installed this plane on my FSX, I forgot to install the panel files, so:
- I had no gauges at all
- the plane did not appear in the plane list (no panel), so I could not confirm anything

What I will do tonight is delete the entries in the FSX.cfg for that plane, and see if I get asked anything on the next startup.

Copy the existing .cfg and place it somewhere safe. FSX will rebuild it and you can test, then place the old one back when you`ve finished checking things out.

That's a good method, but won't be needed. I have checked my FSX.cfg list of thrusted gauges, and there is nothing in there that is related to the Trident or to the directory containing the panel.

So basically, this could mean that aliasing the panel to another plane prevents the system from asking this stupid confirmation for each new gauge. Interesting...

I have the BAC 1-11 510 and 400 installed and looking at the panel.cfg files I see that
ALL the gauges used are XML gauges contained in CAB files.
This means that those gauges will NOT result in any "Do you want to run..." messages
or entries in the fsx.CFG file.( I searched mine and there are now entries ).

It's only .gau and .dll gauge files that will cause the "trusted" dialogs.

I'm not sure why you really need to know if you've already installed it and
it's working...

OTOH, it DOES annoy me that ACES choose to cause all that BLOAT to the
fsx.CFG file by placing those trusted gauge entries there.

Then this is surely the explanation. I never realized that the XML gauges were not bringing those popups, thanks for the info

I could nether remember for sure, nor test immediately, that's why I asked on the forum, know that there would surely be somebody who would have the time to test again.

Another thing to remember, if you alias a panel then you`re aliasing the existing gauges allied to that panel too, not the new gauges........ So, you won`t get any messages if the aliased panel/gauges are already installed in another working plane.
