their are loads of porn spammers at the moment. heck even my clans forums are getting spammed. and ive been on a few other forums with the same people posting the links.

their is no need for more mods, the current mods are handling the situation just fine, and you all no not to click on the links so its not that big of deal.

You really cant do anything about this, im a moderator at a other forum, and we are also having trouble keeping the spammers out, we got all the strange e-mail adresses gathered, IP banning, and e-mail activation checked by the admin, it still doesnt keep them out. I think the spammers are moving from the E-mail type to the forum type. And there mostly using standarized forums so they can easily spam on that. I know a forum that has been hand written by the site moderator wich does not have any spamming problems, well ,except for some of the members themselves Grin.

Bottom-line: We cant do shit about it.

Could it be possible for pete to set up a system such as any post that contains a link and any 'key words' (most used by spammers, like the obvious ones, aswell as ones such as 'the best') has to be moderated before posting?

Is that possible on the YaBB platform?

Pete is continually looking for ways of keeping the porn peddlers out which won't disrupt the use of and access to the forums too much. The mantra of this forum is that it should be fun and easy to use.

The forum should also be easy to register on, so people don't feel intimidated by an over complex registration process.
Out of the 20+thousand members there are only a hundred or so who post regularly ...... most peeps come on ask their question .... get their answer and move on, maybe popping back to check for answers or to search for answers to other problems they may have. In light of this a registration process that was overly complex would put them off.

Likewise, if too many filters were put on what could be posted then everyone would have problems, even trying to post something innocent, if a word or phrase set the filters working.

As I've stated in another thread ..... Let the mods know about the porn peddlers and we'll deal with them ASAP. PMs with links to threads and/or the spammers profile are most helpful.

cheers

I understand eno, but if this was to be implemented, only posts including a link AND a key term would be moderated (not deleted all together, but put on a waiting list for a mod to approve, and once approved posted on the boards)

And I agree with the easy sign up, but I can't remember, does SimV use CAPCHA on the signup page?

All the best,
Alex

The Mods would rather have a full inbox of PMs with the URL of the offending thread and/or the offenders profile, than to have to OK every innocent thread with a link in that may have tripped the "porn filter".

So untill there is a better solution .... MK1 eyeballs and a bit of common sense are our best weapons at the moment.
