Hi Folks,

Not sure if this is the right 'department' to pose this question, but oh well ....   Undecided

Some of the gauges on both stock and downloaded fs9 aircraft have suddenly disappeared, making controlled flight rather ... er ... problematic.  I've been downloading (and deleting) a fair bit recently.  I know that many downloads use stock gauges, but is it possible that some models 'capture' these gauges, so that when you delete the model, the gauges go with it (does this make sense)?  I've tried restoring the models that hadn't been wiped from the Recycle Bin, but it didn't help.

I suppose the REAL question is, is it possible to restore the missing gauges?

Many thanks for any help/advice   Kiss

Default gauges can be restored from CD2\MSGAME3.cab\<path>Gauges\.  For custom gauges you'll have to reinstall them from the add-on aircraft's files.

If aircraft add-ons use an auto installer and uninstaller it is possible that: 1) the installer will overwrite gauge files (installed by other add-ons and/or default gauges) if they have the same file name....and... 2) that the uninstaller will then remove the gauge files even though their needed by other aircraft. For this reason it is advised that you point auto-installers to a temporary folder rather than the 'active' FS folder and than move folders/files into the sim manually. If asked to 'overwrite' files you should normally answer 'no'. Do not use the uninstaller unless your confident it will not remove needed files.

A tip for installing aircraft to FS9: You can place the gauge files in the aircraft's \Panel\ folder rather than the main \Gauges\ folder. This makes for much easier removal if you decide to scrap the aircraft.

Also, if your using an FS (file) Manager, some misbehave and may remove more files than they should.

Hmmmm?  Where did I go wrong???   Undecided

Following Dave's instructions, I first made a back-up copy of my current Gauges file.  I then unzipped MSGAME3.cab, selected all the .gau files, then had WinZip extract them to the Gauges file in fs9.  I clicked  'yes' to overwrite existing files.  Unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem.   Sad

As near as I can tell, by checking a handful of panels for different models, it's the default Cessna primary flight and engine instruments that are missing (though not all of them).

Any further advice, from Dave (or anyone) would be appreciated.  Thanks!   Smiley

First off, double check that  the unpacking process placed the gauge files in the correct folder (the main \Gauges\ folder), and didn't, for example, create a new 'Gauges' folder inside the main 'Gauges' folder (...\Gauges\Gauges\..).

Could you identify one or more of the aircraft that are missing gauges?...either default or add-on. If add-on, include the download location and filename.

Success!!!   Smiley

Well, you were right, Dave.  The process did create an additional 'Gauges' file within the main fs9\Gauges.  I copied the contents of this 'additional' file into fs9\Gauges and it seems to have done the trick.  I've checked about 80% of the aircraft now (mostly my favourites) and they're all OK - even the default Cessna, whose gauges were the main 'missing' ones.

Thinking about your previous reply, I suspect the problem was created by those self-installing/uninstalling models.  I'll be more careful about those types from now on ... promise   Roll Eyes

Thanks again for helping.
