Howdy, fellow simmers...

after the release of FSX, i started to feel compelled to make a 777-200,since MS decided to leave it out of this one...

so this is it, i´m here starting the new 777 Experience! Wink

i´ve only done photo research for now, but i found such good ones that i expect to be able to make all photoreal textures, or at least most of them...

there will be a DVC, not just any, i plan on not even making a 2d panel whatsoever... i will also look into some gauge programming and see if i can pull out my idead for a simple FMC based on the FS GPS

......

well... to work now! will post updates ASAP Smiley

Yipee!  I love the SMS 777 but I always hated the blue gauges (clearly based off of ONE picture) and the VC doesn't work in FSX.  The 777 is such a great airplane, but make sure yours has GE90s!  They sound so amazing!!!!!!!!

worry not of poly count, my friends... i´m keeping the whole just under 30,000 (triangles, not polys) that´s less than the 737 experience...

that whole fuselage mesh (which is very complex) amounts about 1000 - 2000 faces as is... i´m keeping my limit to 5000 max per part tho... not that any part will come close to that, i believe..

rest assured that i will not go overboard on polys or textures for i have a crappy machine Wink

i thinks i´ts coming about to that point where it begins to vaguely resemble an airplane Grin

i have done the turbine pylons, exausts and have already cut the wings for the flaps which i´m about to do...

look´s high on poly count? it´s not!  Wink only 4940 triangle at this point... that´s about a sixth of the limit of 30,000 i´ve set Shocked

i have yet to make the fan blades...  Smiley

those are the GE-90s...

someone said the sounded really cool and ask me to make it with them, so i did Smiley

i´ve done the blades by now... managed to keep them low-poly enough (indeed, you can only see them barely when the engines are off  Tongue)... i managed to make them with about 40 triangles each (not a lot) sinsce there are 22 of them in each turbine............. Tongue

....and now, the flaps!

pictures later... Wink

I see in the back the normals look kinda weird, the shadowing? It's on the tail cone, that grabs much attention.

that is a smoothing problem... i´m trying to take care of it but it´s proving very persistent... Roll Eyes

but for now i´m more concerned about doing the flaps Cheesy, they are still in progress so no screenies just yet Wink

all in it´s time, i´ll have all those weirdnesses fixed when their turn comes around, worry not Smiley

I think I know how you may fix that problem, if you have to faces together at that tight angle, with smoothing applied that scenario may happen, I've experienced it. Here are some pics for me to help visually explain.

right bad normals, left fine
...

showing a closer shot
...

with edges, you can see the left shape has a face at the end with corrects the bad normals.
...

better view with normals on, showing the face and the better shape to the right.
...

I've personally had this problem before and this is what I did to correct the problem, Moach. Wink

Looks very promising so far. Will it be hard on the frames?

Wingview is very liked by me, I'm not so sure about a virtual cabin. It hits the frames very hard and I usually spend my time in the cockpit.... Grin,

Ok! i´m back again...

i have a screenie, just to not leave anyone thinking that this would´t get ever finished  Roll Eyes

...

i´m doing flap canoes now...

later on will be:

- slats
- wing-flex
- elevator surfaces
- rudder surfaces
- landing gears
- fuse details

and then i might be good for starting the internal model... oh yes, the DVC!! Roll Eyes

i might not do a virtual passenger cabin... seems sort of pointless given the FPS hit they take, and the fact the you spend most of the time in the DVC... i will do wingviews tho Wink

allright then... seeya next time!

yeeeehhh!!!! ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

today i had my first successful export!! it is now an FS plane, not just a little model

...

of couse, as you would expect, NOTHING works yet Roll Eyes but we´re in! and that´s good! Smiley

also, a couple of problems have developed... somehow the planes is TOO BIG (about the same length as the 747-400)... weird, it´s properly calibrated and the plane is measured up to 63.7 meters (the length of the 77-200)... not just that, the outer flap got a little twisted Tongue

i´m not complaining tho... these things always happen Roll Eyes if only my derelict of a computer wouldn´t crash as often.... then it would be much easier to get those fixed Tongue

thoughts and sugestions welcome as always Wink

if you guys read my other post about the aircraft size, you´d probably know that the size problem i was having wans´t really a problem... i was mostly just me acting out over something that i THOUGHT was off when it really wasn´t.....

so i guess we´re doing business now Cool

...i have been devising some rather creative XML possbilities to get us some neat PMDG-like VC lighting effects using alpha maps and ever-lit materials (i found out how).... but we´re not there just yet so first thigs first, right? Roll Eyes

i´ll be back to college this wednesday, but since our semesters usually start lightweight, i think i scroung up some time to work on my baby every now and then... anyways... this semester will be all ´bout 3d modeling and animation so either way it won´t be too far off.....

well i´ll post more when there´s more... well... back to work, for i need a new PC and that requires me to win some green Wink

....man it´s cold down here, 8ºC! damn! folks in tropical countries do NOT have the habit of owning space heaters... brrrr.....

Moach

BTW: that scenery is a Sao Paulo package which i have no idea where i got, some brazilian guy (not me) made it, very well done anyways... Roll Eyes

WHAAHOOOYAH!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

FULLY SUCCESSFUL EXPORT!!!!!!!!!!!  Shocked Shocked

now he have all the animations animation working!!!!!!

but MAN! it feels good to see a thrust reverer slide open Cheesy Grin

look at it!

...

...

and for those who noticed, we have control surfaces on both wings now! courtesy of 3ds max 8 which i found to not have that pesky mirror-turns-parts-inside-out problem Gmax used to pull off...
and that means i don´t have to spend ridiculous amounts of time devising diabollically complicated workarounds to animate the other side, since the then-forbidden mirror button mirrors the animations properly Cheesy

it´s one big party when it works!

and now that the export barrier has been broken, i can move on into actually MAKING THE PLANE!!  Cheesy

happy!!.......   also, in a week from today (next wednesday) i shall have my NEW COMPUTER!!! which i just ordered today!

it should make life a lot easier without the ominous constant crash-and-reset! also, will do everything merrily faster... AND, it will enable me to properly run FSX, thus, export to it as well Wink

Goody Goody!

Seeya!

Very nice dude.  I'm so glad to see people making such nice models and including detailed DVC's!  I can't wait to see this completed, take your time and don't rush the product.  Also can't wait to see the texture you introduce it in!  Great job so far mate!  Grin

Hey Moach, congratulations for the quality of this model, and thanks for providing us yet another great freeware plane with a DVC !!!

Talking about the virtual cockpit, which solution do you plan to adopt ? :
- 3D switches, like in your 737
- 2D switches, like the Trident from dmflighsim.co.uk ?

Personnaly, I like the second choice, the 2D switches. On the Trident, they look very good, and they are also FPS-friendly. Finally, 2D switches on flat VC sections allow further improvements of the VC by third parties (or yourself) to add more functions (easier to place or replace an instrument or a switch). What do you think ?

Moach my friend,

Hope all is well; don't know where you've been for the past few months, but just to let you know - you now have competition! Project Opensky recently announced that they are fairly close to releasing a 777-200 for FS9 - details and screenshots on their forum. Not clear if there will be a DVC but knowing Posky, possibly not.

I just need one that is easy to install (not POSKY then) and has a nice DVC that has a low impact on FPS

This is going to be awesome. Just make sure that you make a cockpit in the outside model and add seethrough windows to see the pilots.

This looks truly amazing, make a change from having to use meljet (not saying there bad!) although the only thing i dont like is the centre of gravity is to far forward on the meljet 777.

keep up the good work!

Note the slope above the windows to the straight line towards the tail

Now go look at the default 777 and most all other 777's

HUGE difference huh?

No wonder the 737 experience is always at the top of the favorites list  Wink

Will the 777 be FSX AND 2004 compatible?

to be honest, i hope not, fs04 compatibility would only lead to issues in sp2.

hmm it's been a while since i've seen my brother working on this plane of his... i kinda had forgotten he was making it...

anyways, we're all heaped up with work from college and right now FSX will have to wait a while i think

i just hope he picks this one up again later... people with ADD have a tendency to leave things half finished Tongue (he lags bad sometimes Grin )

Keep up the pressure guys... maybe that'll make him get to work again Wink

Any idea that the package includes a cockpit just like the one from Phoniex? They made an excellent panel just that it works only for FS2004 and the company collaspe. I am in search for a better panel for B777 series. Hey, Morach, don't mind me asking, if you need any help on the B777 cockpit, I can always help ya. (I am access to cockpit for Singapore Airlines)

HarvesteR, how about giving your brother a hard time? Those dudes at Posky look like they're pretty close to release of their 777-200. May not have a VC but it'll still steal the 777 Experience's thunder...

Hey, Moach, how's things?!

It was designed in GMAX and should work in FSX. I tried it in the demo version (don't have the full version) and it seemed OK, even if all I could do was fly around Princess Juliana! (The airport, not the person...)

The 777 Experience will be designed for FSX, I believe, but will be FS9 compatible.

it's a very bad idea to assume it will work with fsx without testing it in fsx sp2 full.... sp2 has a tendency to screw up things that would otherwise be fine in pre-sp2...
