well, im happy today cuz over in ipswich in suffolk, UK, the best airplane u might see is a cessna 172 but today, i got very lucky!

i saw..

a formation on red arrows being lead by a single red arrow

a vc10 flanked on each side by 2 tornado f.3s!

a nimrod flanked on each side by 2 tornado f.3s!

all in a space of 30 seconds!!!


im extremely happy!!

i heard it was for the queen or something, but i was excited as i had never seen the vc10 or nimrod in real life =P

I believe it was the queens birthday flypast....happens every year. Tomorrow is going to be the Falklands 25th Anniversary flypast so watch out for that Wink

It's confirmed as routing to Kemble afterwards aswell, well.....thats what the local news said Wink

No Harriers in the Falklands flypast. As nice as it would be, the Harrier isn't allowed to fly over London, due to it only having one engine and a poor glide ratio if that engine happens to fail.

Strangely, there are a multitude of helicopters taking part in the flypast. Gliding helicopters I presume... Huh

That's a bit odd, considering the fact that (As far as I know), the Harrier was one of the biggest aviation players in the Falklands battles, correct? You think they'd have at least a couple fly over...

I'm unfamilar with the workings of a helicopter really, but I would have presumed with aircraft like the Chinook, it'd be an engine per rotor? If that was the case, it'd be just as disastrous if one engine failed!

I'm guessing that I'm wrong, though!

Ooooh no no no... All gearboxed. Otherwise any engine failures would be fatal. Gearbox problems tend to be more of an issue.

They have big whirly things on the top that go round and round ...... I think those whirly things help it break clear of the earth and  fly  Grin Grin Grin Grin
