Just found this, read through the forums. It almost seems to good to be true.
It was going to be a bf2 mod, but it looks like they made it into a standalone game.

Looks like this is going to be pretty big, you can play as any unit that ever fought in France during ww2.
its going to be based on the bf2 engine, and its going to have a fully destructible environment "all of France". Game will also have civilians, you can play as French resistance also. I was reading around the faq, and it was mentioned you can even cut the electric lines, and cut off the power to a town. Grin

Looks like it would be interesting but its been in development since 2000, the site is dated 2005 and I don't see any possible release date for it.

i read some where in the forums mid to late 2008, they are currently merging with some big game developer company.

the game is probably going to take a while, they said they are going to include every division, company,  squad "German, American, British, Canadian, etc.." that ever fought in France.

More Info

Can soldiers/non-combatants get sick?

Yes, while toilet breaks are a no go for obvious reasons (if in doubt go and buy Barbie and Ken dolls and check the anatomy structure, and tell us how a game differs?) Vomiting, Sickness etc will occur. This can occur on landing crafts, in the air, on land, after your first kills, arriving at a scene of a lot of dead people. It depends on each unit, etc.

Are there civilians in the game?

There will be plenty of civilians in the game, you can even select one and play out their role as a member of the French Resistance.

Can you make friends with NPCs, or have at least a basic relationship?

1944 features an extremely complex relationship structure, where your exploits during the game can spread between other squads. So if you are a danger to your squad you will be less liked, but if you safe your squad time and time again you will revered by others. It is certainly fun to play as one squad and do some very diverse actions, then later hear about your exploits while playing in another squad. This form of relationship applies to all units, but NPCs and Player Controlled units.

BTW- I believe... from what I have read that the BF will be populated by AI ose to man a large MG that requires a loader, an AI loader players in mp to fill voids. Also, if you chobuddy will tag with you to help, so that a human won't have to perform mundane tasks.

Battleships, destroyers, and LST's will also be crewable.

My rule of thumb: if a game doesn't go from concept to market in two years then it'll never get to market.  The technology changes too fast for a long development cycle in the video game world.  So if the announcement was 2000 and the latest update was 2005 then sorry to say it won't happen.

And as beautiful as that tank looks I gotta think it has too many polygons for any mortal's computer to render.

the website has not been updated since 2005. If you visit the forum and get granted civilian access, then you can see whats been going on in the background, and it truly looks amazing.

and as for the polygons, yea that may be true Undecided

This sounds like a great game, but kind of far fetched because the top end computers of now that it is being designed on will be bottom end rigs in 2008 and for all we know we could have 2gig vid cards and DX11 as basics. (mabye)
And most of the voices in the sound clip sound just like they are directly cut out of COD2.

But if it works out i will for sure buy it the day minute second it is released Cool

Well just have to wait i guess Tongue

Right, and then they'll have to re-design the game for the new hardware by which time the hardware will have changed and they'll have to re-design the game.  Development cycles on video games MUST be short.  There's simply no other way to bring a game to market.  It's kinda like F1 racing: if it can't go from an idea in someone's head to reality very quickly then it isn't even worth trying since the season will be over or the technology will change.
