I am trying to edit my home airport (KLNS) but whenever i either A, create a new runway/taxiway, or B, create new hash-marks it causes problems. First i edit it and it looks fine with no faults. Then when i start flight simulator and go to that airport its fine for about 2 minutes or until i move. But once i move or its been 2 minutes it causes the screen to go black and freeze, eventually crashing Flight Simulator. It only crashes when i actually am atop the runway or taxiway i just created, if i am on a original runway i am fine. If you could respond or email me at Mbender@midsar.org that would be AWESOME!

Note: i am using AFCAD 2.2.1.0 And FS9 .

1) Did you run the the airport thru the Afcad fault finder before saving? (load the airport into Afcad then click on Tools>Fault finder )  Correct any errors that are found and recheck. Once you get 'no errors found' save the file.

2) Make sure you have only one instance of the Afcad file (AF2_xxxx.bgl) for that airport in your sim. More than 1 can cause problems.

Did the fault check, like you said, and it found no faults. as far as the 2 afcad files theres only one that i made for KLNS. Also i'm just curious, I have a lot of add-on scenery, could this cause problems?

A lot of add-on scenery can be the reason of problems alright, though I must admit this is the first time I hear of a problem quite like the one you're having. Huh

Try modifying with AFCAD the same way an airport near KLNS (the nearest possible) and see what happens.

If the results are similar, then it's very probable that some other scenery is messing around where it shouldn't.

If you have other add-on scenery for the airport or in the area you might try disableing it in the scenery library and see if that fixes the problem.

To flatten:

Steve Greenwood created a small utility called Fsflatten (download here) that will create a  .bgl file to flatten an area.

Another option is FlattEx (download here) that will create the text lines for flatten or exclude switches to place in your 'scenery.cfg' file.

There are benefits to using the .bgl method over flatten switches in the scenery.cfg file:

 * You can have an unlimited number of bgl files/Layer (vs. 10 flatten switches)
 * bgl files support many-sided polygons (vs. only 4 sides for flatten switches)

To flatten terrain for AFCAD it suffice using the apron or the taxiways.

In fact the terrain under both apron and taxiways s automatically flattened with no other software needed.

You'll need another software if you need to create an exclusion, but for the flatten AFCAD's apron and taxiways are enough.

Note: the terrain is not flattened under the runways, so if you need a flattening under a given runway, it suffice you put a layer of apron under it (you can make it invisible too) and you're done.

Note2: the apron and the taxiways only flatten the ground at the airport's level. If you need a flatten to a different level (higher or lower) than the airport's, you either define a fictitious different airport at a different MSL height or use another flatten software.

One has to rember that all scenery is displayed in a certain order or level so a level 1 will display before a level 2 and so on. One of the drawbacks in my mind is whenever you activate new scenery it gives it a level 1 priorty. Some thing you can try is once you activate the scenery edit the file and make it the last entry in you file by changing the level and scene numbers this forces FS to display it last.
This can solve alot of problems like the one you are having. But bear in mind it does not all ways fix all of the problems and that is when you will need a flaten or exclude switch.
