Texas State Technical College in Waco, TX. Aircraft run anywhere from $84/hr (C-152) to $195/hr (PA44). When I started training in 2002, the 152s were around $47/hr and instruction was around $17/hr.
Instructor "Pay" is an oxymoron really. Given the amount of time an instructor puts into preparing any given flight vs. the actual time he or she spends with the student, the amount of money an instructor makes is pretty low. Throw on top of that rent, groceries, and student loans and you'll start to feel the burden. Weather, maintenance, and at my airport, President Bush can all determine whether or not you get to work. The monthly pay is quite unpredictable. My airport is in close proximity to Bush's ranch in Crawford plus he lands at this airport when he visits. So it can be closed down for hours at a time plus throw on top of that a Temporary Flight Restriction while he's in town.
It's pretty cool to see Air Force One come in for the first few times but it's inspiring awe goes away after you lose a half or full days worth of work (sometimes even a few days depending on who else is scheduled to show up). Once I get Vista up and running and all my stuff uploaded to my computer again I'll get around to posting some pics on the photos forum.
I'd be lucky to make 18-20K/yr. On the upside though it'll make regional pay look a little better.

30 bucks an hour is what i charged when i gave lessons. Of course i was contract to the school and they only made money off the plane so it was all take home. i loved instructing and i had a great relationship with my students. i miss it sometimes but - cant live on mac and cheese forever.

Hahaha!
That's funny. I like instructing, just wish the compensation was better. We're Part-Time employees on a Full-Time job. I spend more time at the school than most regular instructors but only receive half-time benefits whereas they get full time.

Now you are still living off Mac and Cheese, but you can eat said mac and cheese at a layover (if you airline has them).

Ah, Ramen noodles. Patrick Smith did a whole piece on them after their inventor passed away recently.
