Hello there.

Due to problems with with adequacy of the fourth dimension i'm thinking of giving away gmax -models i've started over the years...

Anybody interested? I'd rather give them to a (small group of) skilled modeller(s) rather than post them on the simviation site for anyone to play around with.

models are:

Super Kingair 300
learjet 45 XR
Grumman Bearcat
f18 C

models have no mentionable texturing, detail levels vary, and if i remember correctly, all of them have VC... Especially I'd like to see the Kingair finished some day, I just know I don't have the time to do it Cry

Hi Juri!

You have great looking models there! I'd be happy to continue work on the KingAir! As far as I can tell from your screenshots, the model and VC looks very good already. Should be fun to finish it  Smiley. In case you wish to take a look at my earlier work, check out our YS-11 (latest package was released just a few days ago). Of course, we'd keep the KingAir as freeware. If you'd like to contact me, you can reach me at esa(at)alliedfsgroup.com.

Best regards,

Hi guys,

I've now been working on Juri's King Air 300 for about week and a half, and I'm pretty much done with  the exterior model. I'll start working on the VC soon, after I've finished placing texture maps on the model. Here is a progress shot of the untextured model.

BTW, I'm looking for help regarding the master textures (both exterior and interior), if there are any interested texture artists out there, please let me know!

Regards,
-Esa

First: Many thanks to Esa for taking the Kingair under his wings, I'm very happy to see the progress he's making!

Second: for anyone who's still interested in these models, just drop me a line, and I'll send the source files to you. There are no oblications about finishing the work, but IF you complete the aircraft and you want to distribute it, it will have to be freeware and has to be distributed on at least one free access site.

The reason these files are not put on Adopt a Design -board is that it seems like a graveyard of models and I don't want to bury mine yet  Wink

-Juri

P.S. Seems that these files are going from Finland to Finland. I  think its funny considering this is a very international board...

How long does it take an "experienced" designer to bring an idea to the screen, ready for download by those of us who just can't do it? I have an idea, I have FSDFSv3-- what I don't have is the floggiest notion as to where to start to begin to get ready to think about doing something sooner or later...

I think the King Air is ready as it is. It looks so "Partridge Family" like that. I say go for it as it is...

The King Air is coming along very nicely, although it's not ready yet...

How long does it take to bring a model from an idea to a ready product? It's really hard to say. An experienced modeler can put the basic 3D model together reasonably fast (depeding on how much time he has to put aside for the project and how good reference material there is at hand). But that's only a part of the equation. Textures will take additional time, as will animation... and if there's a virtual cocpit/cabin involved it'll add some extra work. Panel and gauges/systems can be very time consuming to program, depending on their complexity and the desired level of accuracy. There are not many of those who can do it all by themselves.

Thank you!

I wouldn't forget it. You'll just need to start slowly, pick up an aircraft that you really like and are reasonably familiar with. Collect some material to start on, but don't settle for the very first 3-view you can find. It pays off later if you spend some time choosing the references well.  If you are not familiar with the design program, build something simple first. It doesn't have to be an airplane... just something that will allow you to learn the functions and tools the program offers. You'll learn as you go along. If it came with a tutorial project, build that one. Or look for some on the net.

I have ideas for planes in my mind that have been swimming around in there for years and years. There are plenty of models of existing aircraft done by talented designers like you that I can download (can't install them, though-- don't know how). What I want to do is get a visual on the designs in my head and finally see them as solid models and not just cryptic sketches...

Thanks guys,

It'll have a VC and the cabin, too. I've tried to ensure that all functions can be controlled from within the VC, and that the gauges are updated as smoothly as possible. The plane is designed for FS9, but it should be compatible with FSX.

Hello Everyone!
Just thought I'd give you all a report from my perspective. I am currently the beta tester for this marvelous King Air 300. I can say that in my 8 years of flightsim, I have never seen a more accurately modeled, framerate friendly aircraft. I personally think that this aircraft is modeled more accurately than the Aeroworx 200 is. The 200 and 300 share the same airframe, so a comparison can be made. The first thing you can notice is that the nose is much more accurate on our King Air than on the Aeroworx aircraft. Also, little details such as being able to look into the exhaust stack make this aircraft a real treat. It features a full VC and cabin, and I have no doubt that you will all be mind-boggled at the accuracy level and detail in this aircraft. Well, thats all I am going to say, I certainly dont want to spoil it for everyone!

We will be releasing more screenshots in the days to come, however at this very moment, I cannot release any screenshots. The aircraft is equipped with analog instruments, but has Collins 2-Tube EFIS as can be seen in the default king air.

Just got it installed, what an awesome aircraft. one wuestion though. Why does my prop rpm go to full when i close the throttle completely? I cut throttle all the way back and i accelerated while taxiing. when i move the throttle an inch up the rpms come down.

The virtual cabin is AWESOME!!

You may need to lift the guard the prevents the Batt/Gen from inadvertently being turned on. It also works as a gangbar, and can be used to turn off all three switches at once.

swordfish:

This is because you are using too much power to get the aircraft rolling. Only a little tiny bit of input is needed, especially with the Condition levers in Low Idle.

Hi Guys,

I'd like to thank you for the support and the enthusiasm towards the project  Smiley.

I've been trying to follow as many forums as possible and to make notes on the problems people are having. We'll be addressing as many of those as we can, so please check our forums every once in a while. Additional liveries are also coming, we just need to update them to match the final version of the model.

I know there are issues when the model is used in FSX, but that's something I'm unfourtunately not able to do much about. I don't have FSX as my curren't computer isn't able to handle it  Embarrassed.

We'll continue working on the King Air based on the feedback and additional new information that we might get.

Thanks guys!  Smiley

For those who use FSX there's now a small patch created by Thomas Perry. It includes new model files by me which will fix the unclickable gauge areas in the VC. Thomas has done some other small modifications to improve the compatibility, and I highly recommend downloading his package if you're using FSX.

Wow, great work on finishing his project!  When I get home from school I'm going to have to download that FSX patch.  For some reason the plane slows down my framerates immensly, probably because it's so detailed.  I wish I could get into designing, I'm just too lazy to get into the tutorials.  So I guess I wouldn't be able to build an entire aircraft either  Roll Eyes Stupid me.  Always a fan of your great plans FSFlight Group

Hey, uh, each time I select the FSX version it says an error has occured and the FS needs to restart.  You guys need to fix that.

If you're having problems with FSX, please contact Thomas directly. He'll provide support for his FSX mods. I don't have FSX, so I'm unfourtunately unable to verify any problems/fixes. I've heard that some are experiencing very low frames with the model. It's interesting, as I've tried to keep the model quite simple and framerate friendly. One possible source for problems could be the default GPS which is used in the VC, but again I've not experienced anything odd myself.

I think the most propable cause for framerate issues is the default gps. I threw it in just to see if it would have too much of an effect on fps with my system and it allmost did... It's been there ever since as I hardly ever fly in dense scenery. Actually I hardly ever fly at all these days  Undecided

I don't know if FSX handles gauges the same way as FS9 (I have FS9), but removig it temporarily should be pretty easy... As I have FS9, I can't really say for sure.

Man, the regular version available here without the patch works with poor framerates on FSX, and Thomas' FSX update doesn't work at all.  When I click on the plane, FS freezes and says it has to restart.  How can I get a hold of Thomas?  Is he a member here?

Just like to say what great work guys. First of all to Juri for starting the project and Esa, Joe and Thomas for seeing it through. The plane looks great and as soon as i get my laptop back from the incredibly slow pc repair people will get straight back on to download it Smiley

If it's ok for you I'll e-mail g-max files to you. Just let me know which ones you are interested in.
